It's important to pick a brush with firm bristles but if you have sensitive skin (as I do) go with something a little softer - I like:
The Organic Pharmacy Ultimate Natural Skin Brush - $23 - with natural bristles that gently exfoliate to shed dead skin and boost circulation keeping the lymphatic system in great condition. As an added bonus, it has a long handle making it easy to reach your back!
Available at Murale stores across Canada and online at beauty.shoppersdrugmart.ca.
It's easy to use and I like to do it before I shower so I can wash away any loosened dead skin cells - just start from the ankles and work your way up in long upward strokes and circular motions - feel free to adjust the pressure on any sensitive areas - if it hurts you are doing it too hard and can even cause bleeding so ease up. And of course don't brush over skin that is already broken or damaged: cuts, scrapes, sores, burned skin - including sunburns or areas of infection, redness or inflammation.
Some people swear by these brushes for their face too but I'll give that a pass - and if you find that even the softest brush is too much for your body's sensitive skin you can get the same kind of effect in a much more gentle way with a dry washcloth!
