L'Oréal Professionnel Pro Fiber - helps hair damage disappear, and stay gone!

Having experienced many times the disappointment of having a fabulous salon treatment that was basically washed away the first time I shampooed at home, I was excited to try the Pro Fiber treatment for myself and I visited Lisa at Mosaic Hair Group. I wasn't sure exactly which treatment program I needed but no matter, there's an app for that and Lisa took me through a questionnaire that quickly pinpointed my hair's particular issues and decided that we would do the Restore treatment in the salon but send me home with Revive home products because my hair wasn't super damaged and she figured that the salon treatment would be enough to bring it back to perfection - she was right - look at it - amazing!

At home I just wash and condition with the Revive products and every 4 washes I replace the usual  conditioner with a serving of Re-Charge and my hair still feels as soft as the day I left the salon, looks as shiny and is practically frizz free, even with this stupid weather! It's a very quick and affordable treatment to add to your regular salon visit - takes 10 minutes and costs $25 - $35 depending on hair length.

L'Oréal Professionnel Absolut Repair Cellular

If your hair is very dry or damaged you probably spend a lot of your money, time and energy trying out products that promise to make your hair look and feel soft and healthy. Something I have noticed in the last few brands of shampoo/conditioner that I have tried is that there seems to be this trend towards the shampoo being thicker than the conditioner. I don't like this - in my little world, the conditioner is supposed to be thicker than shampoo, that's just the way it is - so I really appreciate how nice and thick the masque is, way better than the typical wimpy conditioner. Unlike some masques you may have used that have to stay on for 10 minutes or so, this one only needs to be on for 2 minutes - the same as a normal conditioner.

The other thing that is great about these products is that they don't weigh my fine hair down. I don't find that I am able to use a lot of products that are meant for fine hair because they are too heavy and just end up making my hair look greasy. No greasy looking locks with this one, just soft, smooth and healthy looking hair!

The only thing I'm not overly fond of is the scent - a little too floralish for my taste, but since it doesn't linger, I can live with it.

What happens when you put four future hairdressers and a slightly deranged blogger in a room together with a camera for HAA? Let's find out!

While you all were toiling away at work and school today, I had the great pleasure of hanging out with a very cool group of hairdressing students from Marca College - Dufferin and helping them make a video in support of Hairdressers Against AIDS and World AIDS Day. Not only was it educational, it was a hell of a lot of fun!

L’Oréal Professional invited myself and 9 other bloggers to each join a group of students and mentor them in the making of a video. I must admit I was a little apprehensive, I've never made video, touched an iPad or been allowed near young people with impressionable minds before so any of these factors could have made the whole thing a disaster! Luckily I had the best group and as you can see, definitely the most attractive!


Many thanks to my new best friends and future hairdressers (I will get a discount right?!) (l-r): Chantel, Josh, Keisha and Vanessa (front) for making this such a great experience! And as you will all see from the video below, they are a talented bunch too!

Use Your Voice, Use Your Power For a Beautiful World Without AIDS!

World AIDS Day is coming up next week on December 1st and I heard a surprising statistic relating to it - Did you know that every single day two new people are infected with HIV in Canada? I had no idea it was still that big a problem and I expect my reaction is not uncommon!

So I was very honoured to be asked and happy to participate when L’Oréal Professional Products Division and UNESCO invited me to participate in the 10th anniversary of Hairdressers Against AIDS (HAA): a global advocacy campaign in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The program has reached out to 1.3 million L’Oréal hairdressers in 26 countries, since its creation in South Africa in 2001.

The goal of the day is To “Use Your Voice, Use Your Power” and spark conversations about HIV/AIDS in Canada. To help do this, L’Oréal has engaged the help of Toronto bloggers including moi to join a group of students to produce creative videos aiming to raise awareness across the country.

The best thing you can do yourself for World AIDS Day is educate yourself and others - change starts with yourself, so if everyone did just a little bit, the slogan would soon be reality! 

Of course I am very open to the idea and thoughts of all of our wonderful readers - and it would be very helpful in making the video to know what everyone's thoughts are, how/if AIDS/HIV has touched your lives, what you think of the video above or anything else you want to share - many thanks in advance, I know I can always count on you guys to tell me what you thin. Adventures in INOA Revolutionary Reds! Win stuff while mocking me!

When I was recently asked to be a hair model in a contest for hairdressers, I was game, I'm pretty adventurous when it comes to my hair, I mean - it's just hair, it grows!

I was excited to find out that the contest was being run by INOA - the newish L'Oréal Professionnel haircolour to introduce their new red shades.  You may recall that in the summer, I had my hair done by the lovely Susan at Taz Hair Co. with INOA, but in a copper since that was the closest there was to red at the time.

It sounded easy, I didn't have to do anything but show up, have my hair coloured, cut and get my picture snapped.  That just goes to show what I know!

I showed up at Beauty Concept Salon and met Shirley and Maggie Wu who are so lovely and seemed to have a clear vision for what my hair was going to look like!  Three different red shades of INOA, a whole lot of foils and the best part, no smell later - I had this beautiful vibrant colour!

It was then cut, and something to keep in mind if someone ever asks you to be a hair model, the cuts for these photos are often a bit avant garde - my hair looks pretty normal in this picture but it's actually very asymmetrical and quite a lot longer on the other side so it's the kind of cut that really needs to be styled in order to look good, and since I'm more of a wash and go kind of girl, it's not the kind of cut that works with my everyday lifestyle.  After killing off the ozone layer with hairspray and having a full face of makeup applied it was picture time!  This is where I discovered that modeling is as hard as it looks on America's Next Top Model!

SOlar Sublime from L'Oréal Professionnel answers your hair's summer SOS!

Let's face it, summer is hard on the hair and by this time of year, after a couple of months of sun, chlorine, salt water and everything else you put it through in the summer months, it's looking a little frazzled!  The Série Expert SOlar Sublime wants you to soak up the sun but keep your hair hydrated so the line contains Mexoryl, a highly effective sun filter used in sunscreens.  Here's what you can find in the line:

SOlar Sublime Shampoo - 250ml - $18.50 - after-sun protect shampoo that contains vitamin E derivative and glycerol.  It gently cleanses hair and removes residues of sand, salt and chlorine to bring softness and facilitate styling.

Laugh with Mother Nature Thanks to L'Oréal Professionnel and Moroccanoil

Instead of Mother Nature laughing at you, with these two hair masks you're going to laugh with her!

MoroccanOil - Intense Hydrating Mask ($35/250ml)

This hair mask is meant for dry and damaged hair and contains Argan oil, well known for its medicinal and cosmetic properties Moroccan women have been using it forever and let me tell you their hair is gorgeous.  This mask has a nice creamy texture and I loved the scent. The price may look steep but 250ml should actually last you for a long time.  You're supposed to apply only a teaspoon of treatment on your towel dry hair but I applied more like a full tablespoon (mind you, I have really thick hair). It has to set for 5-10 minutes. The results were noticeable right away, my hair felt smoother and more manageable. For me the test to see if a mask is good or not comes when I try to blow dry my hair: enough hydration means my hair is more manageable. This mask really delivers, I will definitely keep on using it! L'Oréal Professionnel Masque aux huiles, Série Nature  ($28/200ml) - Hair Mask

This idea is similar to the previous mask: L'Oréal incorporated oils (natural bran and olive oil) to this mask to soothe and tame your hair. The difference here, is that this mask takes a more natural approach. It doesn't contain any parabens or silicons. I'm not really crazy about the fragrance it reminds me of yeast or beer (hey...and I'm not an alcoholic like Lisamarie) but that's also because the scent is 100% natural.

This mask can be left on your hair for 3 minutes only and again it does a good job taming my crazy hair. This mask is sold in hair salons.  Go to http://ca.lorealprofessionnel.com to find your closest one

Smell and sting free haircolour? Fantasy becomes reality with INOA!

A couple of months ago I told you here about an event that I went to held by L'Oréal Professionnel to introduce their innovative new hair colouring product - INOA. Now it's all well and good to watch a slick presentation and admire the colour on a bunch of models but as someone smart once said - the proof is in the pudding!  Not that I wanted pudding on my head but I sure was up for trying some INOA hair colour so off I went on Saturday to Taz Hair Co. in Yorkville to have the full INOA experience.  Taz is located in a funky lower level shop on Yorkville Avenue and looks exactly like you would expect a salon in this super trendy part of town to look but at the same time I found it very warm and friendly.

I was sitting in the waiting area when I saw a girl with bright red hair show up.  Her arms were covered in tatoos, her shirt kept slipping off her shoulder and she was wearing a skirt so short, I was praying she wouldn't drop anything.  Of course, this turned out to be my colourist - Susan!  Now really,  is this what you expect a Susan to look like?  Susan's are mousy haired, wallflower accountants (no offense meant to any other Susans out there)!  They are not tattoo sporting, Bret Micheals loving, award winning colourists,  - but there you go - all my preconceived Susan notions have gone out the window!  On with the colour!

Here's a before so you can get an idea of what she started with - a dark auburn.  We decided to go light for spring.  I would have liked a strawberry blonde but INOA doesn't have a full range of reds yet so we decided on a light copper with a few highlights thrown in to lighten things up.  I had the best time with Susan while she coloured my hair and I'm pretty sure she is certifiable.  She warned me if Bret Michaels came up on the playlist that she would have to stop and slow dance - it never did happen so I didn't find out if it was me she would have been dancing with...  I would also be remiss if I didn't mention that Taz has some great eye candy... just sayin'...

And here's the after - beautiful no?!  Lighter, brighter and much more springlike!  Now let me tell you, the INOA really is better than any other dye I've used or had used on me.  There was NO smell and no scalp burning to it whatsoever.  Even the semi-permanent colour I usually use at home smells terrible and stings a bit! INOA is like having conditioner on your head - if it wasn't for the colour (mine was purple) you would never know you were colouring your hair!  So if you've been avoiding hair colour because you hate the smell/pain you are going to love this stuff!

Even better, the INOA shampoo they wash the colour out with smells amazing!  All fresh and fruity, I'm going to have to find out if this stuff is sold separately!  After the blowdry I could not get over how shiny and soft my hair was - this is so not your usual damaging hair dye!

Do I love it?  Yes!  Would I do it again?  Absolutely!  Do you need some INOA hair love of your own?  Why are you still asking me crazy questions?! - get yourself to Taz immediately!

L'Oréal iPhone Apps Make You Three Times a Lady!

I'm always looking for some cool little apps to add to my iPhone and I'm also always curious to see how big brands embrace new technologies. When I searched for L'Oréal apps on the iTunes store, to my surprise I found 3 different ones.  All 3 are free.

The first one is from L'Oréal Paris (in English) and despite the poor customer ratings, I don't think it's a bad app: remember it's free... so it would be silly to expect fancy features when you're not paying for it! This app works more like a shopping guide than anything else. 

A Get the Look section shows you a L'Oréal models photo gallery (Penelope Cruz, Eva Longoria, Noémie Lenoir) and the products you should purchase to get the same look. Additional pictures would make this section better, though.

The Make up Application Videos section contains links to YouTube videos. The videos are all short but for some reason I need to switch to a wi-fi connection to be able to watch them. Annoying. If I want to waste my monthly bandwidth, it's my problem.

Finally the last section: Your Personalized Diagnostic will find the ideal skin or hair care products for you, based on a series of questions. If this is kept up-to-date, this section alone would make this apps worthwhile because it would help you keeping track of all the new L'Oréal products.

For some reason Studio Secrets Profession by L'Oréal Paris is available on the Canadian iTunes store, despite being published in...Swedish. Since I happen to know a bit of Swedish (no, really) I can tell you, you're not missing too much. It works more or less like the previous app, except the beauty secrets and shopping recommendations are all based on Linda Evangelista's looks.

OK, this app is not really from L'Oréal itself but from the L'Oréal Fashion Week in...Melbourne. However, I wanted to mention it because I love the concept here: this app contains the festival's programme with all the runway shows and designers information. It's very easy to navigate and the social features are definitely interesting: you can connect to Facebook and Twitter straight from this app and post your updates as you go from one show to another. You can even track where your contacts are located...which can be a little creepy.

If you're not going to any of the runway shows, a few YouTube Videos will give you a taste of what's happening backstage. I think it's a great app, especially if you're going to attend this festival.

L'Oréal Professionnel introduces INOA - the haircolour of the future - today!

Still on the party circuit, Christelle and I took ourselves down to Cheval in the entertainment district of Toronto for a L'Oréal Professionnel red carpet event to launch their innovative salon haircolour - INOA!  We were greeted by delicious electric green drinks and an excited crowd.  After watching Christelle eat her weight in cured ham (which was very worrying as the ham was served on very sharp sticks and she was already well into her first litre of electric green drinks) and drip dipping sauce all over the floor and her person it was time for the presentation!

Now I am a long time hair colourer so I have pretty strong opinions about the process.  The things I don't like about haircolour are the same for at home colour as well as the salon:  it burns, it smells, the colour fades too fast and my hair looks damaged afterwards.

L'Oréal's INOA has addressed all of my concerns.  In permanent haircolour, ammonia has always been the ingredient of choice but INOA contains no ammonia.  Instead they have created a system rich in oil, used for the first time in haircolour.  It maximizes the efficiency of active colouring ingredients, including the alkaline agent, by boosting them into the heart of the hair, for greater respect of the hair fibre and unprecedented colour results.  This makes it possible to use an alkaline agent other than ammonia, providing it with lightening properties and no smell!

So let's recap: ammonia-free, odourless INOA will lighten your hair up to 3 levels, darken hair and perfectly cover grey, while respecting the scalp and the hair fibre.

At this time there are 50 shades available including 10 natural basic shades, 6 golden shades, 10 brown shades, 12 copper and red shades, 9 beige shades and 3 ash shades.

L'Oréal Professionnel wants you to play ball with their body jam!

I am not so much a hair person.  Let me rephrase that, I wish I were a hair person but really, I just suck at styling my own hair.  I'm convinced this is what hairdressers are for, so that once every couple of months my hair will look really awesome for a day.  It's for this reason that I tend to keep my fine straight hair in a very simple choppy chin length bob. It's hard to mess up a bob.  Sadly, in some sort of random drive by hair cutting incident, my hairdresser took leave of her senses during my last cut and chopped waaaaaay too much hair off.  She gave me some sort of demented pixie cut which I'm sure would be adorable if I were one of those pixie type women but alas, I'm not so I was forced to try and turn my hair into something resembling a funky grown up person hairdo.

Enter L'Oréal Professionnel play ball body jam - thickening and fixing gelatine - 100ml - $21.90 - first off, this is the coolest looking gel - well really it looks like thick, lemon lime jello, and smells like it too!  It's very easy to use, I just take a small amount, rub it between my hands and run it through my towel dried hair.  Depending on how much volume I want I either blow dry it or let it air dry.  The body jam still adds some volume when I air dry and super volume when I blow dry.  Just to test out how much power this stuff had, I blow dried my hair with my head upside down one day.  I wanted my layers to really stick out all over the place - just to see how long they would stay like that before falling - I have really straight hair that does not like to hold a curl or do anything interesting.  Impressively, my porcupine look stayed all day.
