Tinted Moisturizers - M. Asam, Fresh Minerals, Dermaglow and POP Beauty

As the weather gets hotter I get lazier and I really try to pare my makeup routine down to as few steps as possible.  In the past couple of years I've discovered the joy that is the tinted moisturizer - foundation and moisturizer together in one handy bottle - and if you are really lucky, it's foundation, moisturizer and sunscreen together - what's not to love about the convenience of that?!  Another thing to appreciate - because it's only a tint and not full foundation, it's much easier to match your skin colour!  It's also a much less precise application, I don't even use a foundation brush to apply, it's much quicker with your fingers or a sponge! Keep in mind that if you are very light or very dark, you will want to look for one that offers a shade range as the universal colour ones can end up being too light or too dark. Here are the ones that I have been loving lately:

M. Asam Vino Gold Radiant Tinted Day Cream - 100ml - $32 - hydrates and cares for your skin with Grape Seed Oil while instantly concealing with a light, natural tone.  It also contains Vitamin C and OPC (a grape extract) which is probably the strongest natural antioxidant.  Isolated OPC extract is more than 6 times stronger than vitamin C and 18 times more effective than vitamin E against free radicals.

This European cosmetic brand is not that well known in North America and it should be!  The Vino Gold line is based on natural anti-aging grape ingredients in combination with a range of plant extracts and vitamins.

I knew when I found out about all the grape ingredients it contained that I would have to keep it away from Christelle, she'd be sucking it back like wine!  This one is first on my list because you really get the most bang for your buck as far as quality, quantity and price go for all the ones I've listed here.  If they would just add an SPF, it would be perfect!  The application is smooth, the tint blends perfectly and it adds just enough moisture without being or looking greasy.

You can find the M. Asam products online at www.scienceandnatureonline.com, www.sears.ca and in store at the Sears stores at the Toronto Eaton Centre and Scarborough Town Centre.

freshMinerals Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 - 40ml - $25 - Available in 5 colours: natural, pink porcelain, nude, sand and ivory - I really like that this one comes in a range of colours.  It has a brush applicator which I didn't think I would like but it was actually really convenient to dab it on my face with the brush and then use a sponge to blend it in and of course my lazy self loves that it includes an SPF to save me a step.  My favourite part though is the finish - it's not matte, it's not shiny - more like slightly dewy - you know, the look your skin had when you were 16 (the parts of your face not covered in zits of course).  Anyhow, I loved the finish so much that I don't even bother with powder except on my t-zone.  I also think that because it has a range of colours that you can match up to your skin tone that it offered a bit more coverage then some of the others.

It's available online at www.freshmineralsusa.com

Dermaglow Anti-aging Tinted Moisturizer - 30ml - $40 - I wanted to try this one because it's one of those new tints that will adjust itself to your own skin tone which to me is like magic - and who wouldn't like to have a magic face?!  It comes out of the tube whitish and then turns a flesh colour which I was disturbed to see was too dark - "what kind of crappy magic is that?"  I thought.  I swiped my hand and then swiped my face looking with dismay at the too dark and therefore slightly dirty looking patches.  And then something truly magical happened when I took a second look a few minutes later, the dark swipes had disappeared and somehow changed into my skin colour - amazing!

This is a 3 in 1 product:  Anti-aging - includes Dermaxyl, proven to reduce appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, Personalized colour - micro-encapsulated colour adapts to your specific skin tone, Moisturizing - hyaluronic acid, with its water binding properties, brings replenishing moisture to skin.:

POP Beauty No Show Correct & Protect Tint SPF 30 - 30ml - $24 - Available in 2 shades - instantly evens out skin tone and cuts out discolourations.  Oil free and water based for a refreshing finish.  Hypoallergenic and fragrance free.  I was worried that with an SPF of 30, that this one would be too heavy but it is really very light.  A word of advice, if you are fair go with Shade 1 - I was accidentally given Shade 2 and it does show up on me.  I decided it was more trouble then it was worth to try and switch it for the lighter shade so I have been trying out the darker one but wearing it more as a bronzer then allover my face which has been a surprising flattering look as it just adds a hint of colour and  people have been asking me if I've taken a bit of sun and how healthy I am looking.

I have seen other people's reviews where when they have the right colour match, say that it really does blend well and evens out their skin.

POP Beauty is available online at www.popbeauty.co.uk

  1. Mmm! Tinted moisturizer! I just rediscovered tinted moisturizer, actually. I started using it for a brief period not too long ago and then stopped. I started again and I am very in love! Since it's out, I'll be looking for something new, so this is a great post. Thanks! :)
