Monday found me at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto for the Lucian Matis Fall/Winter show.
I was able to get a look backstage and watch the fabulous Lori Taylor, lead makeup artist for Smashbox work her makeup magic. In collaboration with Lucian she came up with a dramatic look of sexy edginess to compliment the clothes and since Lori's all about sharing, here's the products you'll need and how to create the look for yourself:

In collaboration with Lucian she came up with a dramatic look of sexy edginess to compliment the clothes and since Lori's all about sharing, here's the products you'll need and how to create the look for yourself:
Complexion:
1. Hydrate your skin with moisturizer and apply Smashbox Photo Finish Primer.
2. Apply Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Foundation SPF 10 to even out the compexion.
3. Apply High Definition Concealer under eyes and to even out skin tone.
4. Apply Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder to set the makeup.
Eyes:
1. Blend the darkest shade from the Smokebox Eye Palette into crease and lids.
2. Apply Caviar Cream Liner and then Onyx Pencil as liner.
3. Apply false thick lashes on top and bottom eyelashes.
4. On top of fake lashes, for extended volume and depth, finish off the eyes with several coats of Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara.
I must have taken this picture before she had her brows done but they really highlighted the eyes by applying High Definition Concealer over the brows and set with powder to achieve a "not there" effect.
Lips:
1. use Smashbox Nude Lip Liner to softly define the lip contours.
2. Complete the lips with Be Legendary Lipstick in Honey.
Cheeks:
1. Finish the camera-ready complexion by defining bone structure with Step-by-Step Contour Kit.

Here's Lori with her favourite too - the Beauty Blender! |
For the third
season in a row, Schwarzkopf Professional was on hand to take care of a very funky hair look. Paul
Pereira, of Solo Bace Salon, was the lead hairstylist backstage and worked
closely with Lucian Matis to create a look that would compliment this season’s
collection.
“Many of Lucian’s
pieces included lace or feathers – lots of great texture – so we wanted to
incorporate this with the hair. We took
the classic chignon that is very trendy this season and added some edginess to
it with braiding for texture,” says Pereira.
He also integrated the centre part that is another of this season’s hair
trends.
To create this
look, Pereira and his team followed these steps - you can get a good view of the finish look in the picture above (which was taken by me) - the pictures below are by Biserka Livaja):
1. Start by creating a centre part at the front
of the head. Once you reach the crown,
section the hair into a triangle formation all along the back.
2. Apply OSiS AquaSlide to the triangle
sectioned hair to add shine and sleekness and begin making the first braid,
then the second and finally the third.
3. Apply OSiS Dust It to the front section of
the hair to give it some volume and lift.
A slicked down centre part can be very severe and not wearable by most.
4. Apply OSiS Elastic to the mid to ends of the
hair and brush out so that hair is workable to create a loose ponytail or
chignon. The finish is up to you. Chignons are very hot this season, but
ponytails can be easier to create for some.
5. Finish the style with OSiS Session spray to
keep everything in place.
“There can be
several variations to this hairstyle to take it from the runway to everyday,”
says Pereira. “You can simply crimp the
triangle section at the back or curl it to give it the distinct texture we’re aiming
for. You can simply make one braid
instead of three or move the braid to the side of the head instead of the
back. What’s important is to have this
hairstyle stand out from the average chignon or low ponytail.”
Of course we can't forget the cool nails courtesy of TIPS Nail Bar!
And I guess it wouldn't be a fashion show without some clothes - which really are proof that I am Lucian's muse - he knows how much I love things that are see-through and have feathers and he designed a collection to suit my tastes (some symmetry in nature stuff was inspiration as well but that obviously was an afterthought)
Here are a few of my favourites from the show - with pictures by Steve Alkok:
