If you litter you suck, if you are one of the corporations that complained about the anti-litter campaign ads you also suck!

It's so rarely that I see the City of Toronto do something clever or cool - ie. Rob Ford (not cool) - that I was super impressed when I spotted the recent clever advertising campaign aimed at stopping my pet peeve - litterbugs!

Alas, it was too good to be true, no sooner did they impress me then down came the ads after some of the big name brands - whose packaging was creatively used to create the ads -  raised a stink with the City of Toronto and got the campaign pulled due to trademark infringement concerns.

The campaign slogan was, “Littering says a lot about you” and featured discarded packaging arranged to spell out what it is all of us really think of what those litterbugs out there really are.

The combinations included a Reese’s Pieces box and a bottle of Gatorade put together to spell “Pig”; a bag of Lay’s potato chips and a Krazy Glue package arranged to spell “Lazy”; a package of Fun-Dip and a Drumstick wrapper put together to spell "Dipstick" ; a Du Maurie cigarette packet and Red Bull can arranged to spell "Dumb"; Alka-Seltzer and Goldfish crackers saying “Selfish”; and a pack of Sweet'N Low and Lifesavers put together to say “Low Life.”

I think these brands need to think about corporate responsibility and since they are (no matter how inadvertently) part of the problem, also need to be part of the solution. They claim to support anti-littering initiatives but actions speak louder then words - I for one can assure them that these ads are not going to affect my love for Reece's Pieces or Lay's chips!

Since the ads have been pulled off of transit, I'm going to do my bit to make sure the word gets out there - I would make my own ad if I could think of what two products would spell Asshole... which is what I think of the person who keeps throwing their cigarette butts on my lawn - newsflash you jerk, butts are litter too!

Fragrant Friday - Thierry Mugler Angel Precious Star

Celebrate 20 years of emotion and passion with Thierry Mugler Angel Precious Star - 25ml Refillable EDP - $96 - a sensual gourmand with top notes of bergamot and wild berries; heart notes of honey and vanilla; and base notes of chocolate, patchouli and caramel.

The shape of the bottle remains the same and has been highlighted by a shower of silver sequins. It also bears a medallion stamped with the Thierry Mugler 20-year anniversary logo and of course is refillable!

Angel is one of those scents that you either love or hate - personally I love it and appreciate that there isn't a floral note to be found in it! It's a scent that you recognize as soon as you smell it which is a hard thing to do these days when many fragrances are fronted by a pop-tart and seem to smell the same - so you have to appreciate something distinctive even if you don't necessarily want to wear it yourself!

Limited edition and available at The Bay, Holt Renfrew, Murale and Shoppers Drug Mart.
I was also able to check out the recent display at the Bloor Street Bay store of the Thierry Mugler gowns from the Angel advertisements and I was awed by the dress worn by Anna Maria Cseh in this 2003 ad - that was created exclusively for the campaign and weighed 110 lbs! Which explains why she is lying down in the picture, it was actually too heavy to stand up in - beauty really is pain!

Dove turns your perceptions of beauty on their head!

Have you ever thought about just how much digital re-touching goes into the photos you see in magazines? The upside to the advertiser is that they can correct just about any flaw and make everything look perfect. The downside to the reader is that they have corrected every flaw and made everything looks so perfect that you end up feeling inadequate! And if a perfect looking model in an ad can make me, a grown-ass woman feel inadequate, you can imagine what it must to doing to the self-esteem of young girls!

There have been a few companies that are trying to keep things real - Jacob adopted a no re-touching policy for their model photos back in 2010 and Smashbox recently had a campaign where they used un-retouched photos but those are the only ones I can think of other than of course Dove who have for a long time now made the commitment not to distort any of their images and only casts real women in their advertising campaigns.

The above picture is part of Dove's new print campaign to spark a discussion about how re-touching can distort our perception of beauty - check it out and have your say at www.facebook.com/dove and just so you can see how a couple of changes can totally change how you see a picture - check out the same image as above, only turned the other way...

Fragrant Friday - Taylor Swift Wonderstruck

It's not enough that Taylor Swift got to date Taylor Lautner, the cute as a button Swift has a new fragrance and a commercial where she wears the most amazing dress by Christian Siriano! Why she wouldn't use Lautner as her love interest in it I have no idea, the boy that's there pales in comparison!

The fragrance is described as a charming gourmand – floral with sparkling fruity tones on a wooden background. With top notes of raspberry, dewberry, green tea, freesia and apple blossom; heart notes of sweet vanilla, sundrenched honeysuckle and white hibiscus; and base notes of golden amber, musk, sandalwood and peach.

If you've been by a Shoppers in the past couple of weeks you've probably already smelled the tester - I must admit, I have been spraying myself with it every time I go in - it's sweet and fruity and exactly the kind of fragrance that appeals to me! Not to mention the adorable bottle! I think this one is on my Christmas list!
50ml EDP - $63, 100ml EDP - $78, 10ml Rollerball - $22, 200ml Body Lotion - $42, 200ml Bath Gel - $32

Available exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart until January after which it will also be available at The Bay, Sephora, Sears and London Drugs.

Have you smelled it? Do you love it? Is Taylor S. crazy to have dumped Taylor L.? All important questions!

Megan Fox Strips for Armani...and for You.

Megan Fox may not be Oscar worthy just yet (well, who am I kidding? I don't think that's ever going to happen) but she's fronting the new Armani ad campaign for Spring 2010, replacing our favorite fembot, Victoria Beckham. This lingerie line is cute but nothing terribly exciting, based on these pictures. It doesn't matter, mind you: Megan would look hot even if she was wearing Lisamarie's lunch bag, all smeared with ketchup. Whatever she's selling...we're buying!

Gucci 2010 Spring Campaign Makes You Want to Vacation Forever!

Look at these glorious pictures! Look at them! It's minus 10 C right now and I could really do with lounging by the pool on some tropical island, the wind blowing my hair, and wearing these AMAZINGLY HOT shoes. Let's face it, if I buy these $$$ clothes, I won't be able to go on vacation for the next 10 years. If I do choose to go on vacation instead, all I'll be able to afford will be a pair of flip flops. Choices, choices.
In the meantime, here are the pictures of the upcoming Gucci Spring/Summer campaign. It's styled beautifully: grays, black, and white designs really come alive with this intense aqua blue in the background.

Now stop dreaming, time to go back to your -cold- reality!

Agent Provocateur Loves Racy Superheroines. Who Doesn't?

They provoke me, alright. Agent provocateur and their PR stunts. They are good, really good. At least this campaign doesn't make me go WTF?! Like their penis cardigan. This second comic book (that's right!) looks fun and racy. The superheroines, part of a new world order (in Agent Provocateur's world, I guess), wear their underwear outside and with pride! I'm not sure what do they fight for or why, but who cares. I'm sure your man will love this comic book for Xmas and with a bit of luck he will order the Superheroines' lingerie for his very own Superheroine (you, hopefully!). It's all about subtle hints, ladies. SUBTLE.
