Do your skin a favour with an SPF 60 from Bioderma, Vichy, Life Brand, L'Oréal and Neutrogena!

This long weekend is sure to be a good reminder of why sunscreen is so important - it's going to be a hot and sunny one and if you don't wear it, you'll be feeling it Tuesday! Just remember to apply it 30 minutes before you go outside so the sunscreen has time to fully  penetrate the skin; apply it everywhere, even under your clothes as the sun's UV rays can penetrate through fabric and be sure to reapply every 2 hours for maximum protection.

The fairer you are, the higher the SPF you should use. Being amongst the pale, I usually go with a SPF 60 and there are lots to choose from this year - here are a few of my faves:

Bioderma Photoderm SPF 60 Cream - 40ml - $20 - offers maximum photo-protection for skin intolerant to all types of sunshine especially for those of us that are very fair with freckles - with an invisible moisturizing, non-oily texture that is highly resistant to water and sweat with an ideal UVA/UVB ratio that provides the same level of absorption across the entire UV spectrum as well as the highest level of protection on the market to protect against extreme sun exposure and help prevent benign summer light eruption. Vichy Capital Soleil Sheer Lotion SPF 60 Bare Skin Feel Face and Body - 150ml - $29.95 - with broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection that is photostable and enriched with Vitamin E. What's most notable about it though is the dry-touch texture - if you avoid sunscreen because you don't like the way you can feel it on your skin then you will love this stuff, it feels like you aren't wearing anything at all - it's also very water resistant! Hypoallergenic, paraben and fragrance free.

Confession time - I'm addicted to Polysporin - I put it on everything: cuts, scrapes, pimples, cold sores, random rashes of unknown origin... I've always been convinced that there isn't anything it can't cure!

Lately though I've been realizing that there are products out there that actually exist to specifically take care of some of my issues that work even better - here are a few that I've tried or are keeping in mind should I ever need them:

John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight - not only saves your hair, it saves you time!

It's that time of year again - the heat, the humidity all combine to make my head a frizzy mess most days. When I take the time to flat iron my hair it's fine but most mornings I just don't have the time or inclination - a product that will make it possible to only have to do it every 3 days? Yes please! Just keep in mind that this means that you can't wash your hair for the 3 days either - dry shampoo will become your best friend!

John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight Semi-Permanent Styling Spray - 105 ml - $15.99 - you might think it's just for curly haired girls who want to straighten but it's also awesome for those of us with straight hair and a bad case of the frizzies!

John Frieda Canadian Creative Consultant Alain Larivee was kind enough to share his top how-to tips for how best to use the product and achieve the perfect blowout at home:

1. Set the foundation with a frizz fighting shampoo and conditioner then towel dry and spray Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight onto hair and comb through to distribute evenly.

2. Using a round brush, blow dry your hair angling the air flow downwards from room to end.

3. Flat iron one section o hair at a time, pressing both plates together until you reach the end. The styling spray works with the heat of your flat iron to lock in straightness.

4. Touch up with the flat iron on day two and three if needed. The heat will reactivate the straightening benefits in the product.

This week I'm obsessed with... Givenchy Mister Perfect!

If you are a slob like me there are certain things in life you can't imagine living without - up to now it was my Tide To Go Stick which really is the greatest invention ever! Great news, I have now found an equivalent product for my face:

Givenchy Mister Perfect - $33 - corrects the slightest makeup slip-up with the greatest of precision to make you look flawless. Comes with four interchangeable cores that fit into clear compartment on the end of the pen - it's recommended that you use each core for a specific function: one for retouching the eyes; one for the lips etc. The remover itself contains a soothing fig extract that moisturizes, comforts and refreshes while it's touching up and is even effective on waterproof makeup.

I am forever smearing my mascara by blinking too soon after applying so this tool has been a godsend - I no longer have to walk around looking like a slightly (fine, who are we kidding) - incredibly deranged bag-lady!
