Celebrate Holt Renfrew's 175th Birthday with the cutest little coke bottle ever!

Three of my favourite-ist things in life are: Holt Renfrew, things that are pink and coke in little glass bottles - so you can image how much I love this commemoration of Holt Renfrew's 175th Birthday from Diet Coke!

Of course I prefer my Coke without the diet but I can certainly understand that the kind of women who usually shop at Holt Renfrew for their size 0 fashions would never even think of doing something crazy like drink sugar!

Celebrate with your very own cute Diet Cokes - available exclusively at Holt Renfrew in single serve bottles for $1.75 or 6 pack for $6.99 and if you are at the Bloor store in Toronto, be sure to check out the one-of-a-kind chandelier, crafted entirely of Diet Coke class bottle!

As well, Holt Renfrew will be hosting a public outdoor celebration in Toronto at the Bloor Street location the evening of September 6th. Be sure to stop by the Diet Coke lounge and refresh yourself and keep up with all the Diet Coke news on Facebook - facebook.com/DietCoke and Twitter - @DietCoke_CA - join the conversation at hashtag #Hot@175

Fragrant Friday - Demeter is back baby!

Not that it ever went away entirely but over the past few years I've found it difficult to find - Sephora carried a few varieties and I occasionally see a bottle or two in random stores here and there but it's not like it was 10 years ago when it seemed like there were endless scents everywhere!

I'm super happy with Demeter's return and they've already had lots of fun launches this year including: Butterscotch, Moonbeam, Daisy, Clean Skin, Black Ginger and the newest one:

Demeter Dragon Fruit - 30ml - $20 - with leafy green notes intertwined with juicy Dragon Fruit, citrus zest and soft floral and wood hints.

And keep an eye out in November for Black Bamboo - bamboo shoots paired with aromatic greens with added touches of ginger that can be worn by both you and the boy!

Launching September 16th at select Loblaws banner store locations including The Real Canadian Superstore and online at www.DemeterFragrance.com

Prtty Peaushun - for supermodel worthy legs in a bag!

There are certain things in life that nobody should ever have to see: a bar (and the people in it) at 3am when they turn all the lights on; your parents naked; the men's washroom at Kennedy station at 8pm; and my pasty, neon-white legs!

I can't help you with any of the other stuff but I can save you from certain snow-blindness after staring at my legs thanks to:

Prtty Peaushun Skin Tight Body Lotion - 236ml - $40 - the best way to describe it is as makeup for legs but as well as that, it's full of good stuff that will also help improve the condition of your skin by lifting, firming, tightening and diminishing the appearance of cellulite, stretch marks and varicose veins as well as minimizing bruising and sore muscles - including: avocado oil and butter, pomelo/grapefruit wax, jojoba gel, calendula flower, green tea extract, rosemary extract, allantoin, arnica and blue vervain leaf in a formula that is 99.7% natural with no toxic ingredients, parabens, petrochemicals, sulfates, synthetic dyes or fragrances, talc or animal products.

Created by celebrity makeup artist, Bethany Karlyn exclusively for her clients, she gave in to demand and made it available to everyone who had legs, aspires to have legs or just likes the idea of legs. It comes in four shades: light, medium, dark and deep dark which have subtle light reflecting pigments to give a natural radiance that helps even out skin tone, enhance muscle tone and make you look slimmer. What I really like is the packaging or as Bethany puts it the "anti-packaging" - it drives me crazy when I buy a product and then can't get the last of it out because of stupid packaging - this tetra pak type deal allows you to squeeze out he very last drop as well as being designed to take up minimal space in landfills.

The best thing about it though is the instant gratification aspect. Unlike a self tanner, I don't have to wait a couple of hours for a (possibly streaky) colour to develop - I get instant colour which is so important for that last minute skirt wearing occasion! The texture is very spreadable but not too runny, once it's on I don't feel like it's about to rub off on everything or I can't touch it and even though they say it's unscented, I smell citrus which is a plus in my book!

If you are pasty white like me though I will say get the light shade - I thought the medium would be fine for me but it's a bit too dark - or at least after looking at colourless legs for so long, it seems dark to me!

You can find more info at www.prttypeaushun.com and pick up your own public service at boutiques across Canada including Epic Beauty in Edmonton, Beauty Mark in Vancouver, Kiss and Makeup in West Vancouver Rosewater Spa in Burlington, Adelaide Club and Waxon Waxbar in Toronto and Health Hut Boutique in Port Carling.

Of course this also means that on some days, you can no longer see my legs from space...

Kimiko Beauty comes to Canada and my lips - with Pomegranate swatches!

Kimiko Sheer Tint and Lip Plumper - $37.50 - in four shades: pomegranate, raspberry, golden apricot and sweet plum - looking to improve the fullness and smoothness of your lips without irritation? Then you will love this double ended beauty! One side has a tinted treatment that helps create sheer, buildable color with antioxidant berry and pomegranate extracts while the other end holds the lip plumper that also adds a healthy dose of shine to lips.

Containing Hydra-FirmaLift - a unique active anti-aging ingredient that helps moisturize, firm and reduce skin wrinkles as well as vitamin E, vitamin C, lechithin and chondroitin sulphate - antioxidants, moisturizing ingredients and conditioning agents that help provide more hydration and protection against free-radical damage and aging. Along with berry and pomegranate extracts to help provide sheer color and natural hint of fragrance as well as anti-oxidant protection to lips.
Here are my sad little naked lips...
And here they are with the Pomegranate tint - it took 3 coats to get the colour this intense and even - and once it sets, it really isn't going anywhere! My only issue with wearing the tint by itself is that I find it sticky so I have to apply a balm on top to smooth things out - the colour doesn't wear off but the balm does so be prepared to keep applying! On the plus side, it smells amazing (actually tastes pretty good too)!
The plumper end adds super shine and as you can see, enhances the lips but doesn't make them unnaturally fat or anything. You can apply the plumper as often as you want throughout the day as the shine will fade but since there is no stinging to the plumper - you won't be reluctant to!

The Kimiko Beauty line is being carried in Canada exclusively by The Shopping Channel - you can check it out at www.theshoppingchannel.com

This week I'm obsessed with... shu uemura Skin Purifier Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil

I admit it, I used to be one of those people scared of putting oil on my face - with my combination skin it just didn't make sense to me to add oil to oil! As I became older and wiser, I learned the error of my ways and came to the realization that oil provides the easiest, gentlest and most effective way to rid my skin of makeup, impurities and all the other crap that finds its way into my skin during the course of a day. And since shu uemura are pioneers in the world of cleansing oils, I am always interested in their latest and greatest which right now is:

shu uemura Skin Purifier Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil - 150ml - $48, 450ml - $98 - targets 8 skin concerns for skin that is revitalized, more translucent, more radiant, nourished, refined, smoother, suppler and moisturized and of course thoroughly cleanses while it's at it! With a complex made up of: jojoba - for skin renewal; olive - for anti-oxidation; ginger root - for anti-wrinkle; shea butter - for brightening; camellia - for nourishing; safflower - for skin barrier; soy - for vitalizing; and corn for hydration.

And while it's not scientific, the other thing I didn't think I would like about using a cleaning oil is the lack of foam - I still have a hard time believing that if something doesn't foam, it can't actually be cleaning anything (this goes along with my theory that if household cleansers don't smell like citrus, they aren't actually getting things clean)! Here is where Ultime8 rocks - I take a few pumps and smooth it over dry skin, then I wet my face and presto, magic - it emulsifies! Then I make my happy face and wash it all off - see how easy I am to please!?

What's really nice about using a cleansing oil is its gentleness, it cleans thoroughly and removes impurities without stripping all the moisture out of your skin to protect the balance and save you from that awful tight feeling your skin gets when you use something too harsh!

Other things to love about it - the pump dispenser and the smell - it has herbal floral notes to awaken your senses including: rosemary blossom, Provence aspic, freesia, peony, powdery musk and blue cedar.

Available exclusively at Holt Renfrew.

H&M Fall 2012 - minimalism meets maximalism whatever the hell that means!

H&M has sleek and sculptural silhouettes matched with bold shapes and self-assured ornamentation for Fall 2012. Crucial to the line are separates, pants, texture and accessories.

Vichy Normaderm Hydrating Acne Care - for total skin transformation!

One of the most common questions associated with oily/acne-prone skin is - whether or not oily skin really needs a moisturizer - The answer is you betcha! but of course you need the right one that will add necessary moisture without clogging your pores and making the situation worse - so check out:

Vichy Normaderm Hydrating Acne Care - 50ml - $29.95 - this light and fresh lotion combines salicylic acid - to unblock the pores, glycolic acid - to exfoliate, stimulate and regenerate as well as for its anti-bacterial properties and LHA - to exfoliate, stimulate and regenerate as well as purify and erase the signs of acne - to act on the 6 signs of acne-prone skin: pimples, breakouts, redness, dilated pores, shine and dehydration while providing 24 hr hydration.

As well, it's enriched with moisturizing glycerine and mattifying silica to leave a dry, powdery finish on the skin, and is an excellent make-up base.

Of course it would be better not to break out at all but you might be genetically predisposed to, in which case you're screwed. Of course there are also hormonal (taking and stopping the pill, pregnancy, menopause and the menstrual cycle) environmental (smoking and pore clogging makeup)and psychological factors (stress) which cause imperfections to occur and persist. Which means making a lifestyle change can sometimes have some side benefits!

Suitable for even sensitive skin, it's oil-free, hypoallergenic, non comedogenic and paraben-free.

Available in stores now.

China Glaze Real Nail Polish Appliques - with Loop Hole swatches!

{overheard conversation between two random people one of whom is obviously an asshole}
What?! Lisamarie is doing nail wrap reviews?! Where's Elvira, Elvira always does these - Lisamarie is too spastic and loser-ish to be able to get these suckers on her fingers!
I know right? But there you go, miracles happen, heavens part, angels sing yadda yadda so shut the hell up and enjoy the review and if the fates align properly you will see a review from Elvira next week!

China Glaze Real Nail Polish Appliques - $11 - come in 12 designs and promise to be easy to apply - of course when they say that they mean easy to apply for people who have normal sized nails and aren't moronic which generally means - not for me! But since my usual nail wrap tester is running behind I figured this would be an excellent test of how easy to apply these things actually are!

In theory it should be fine: push back cuticles, shape nails, prepare nail surface and wipe off dirt and oil - all of which I am already qualified to do! Now comes the tricky part when I have to pick a size and remove the cover and apply it to my nail except I forget to remove the backing as well and couldn't understand why the strip was so thick and wouldn't bend! Finally it's properly on my nail and I just need to stretch and smooth it, crease it at the nail edge and file off the excess - then repeat 9 more times and finish with a top coat!

My issue with these strips are usually that they are so wide that I would have to cut them down so much to actually fit my nails that they end up a mess but I guess because these ones are stretchy, they don't make them as wide so I didn't have to butcher them at all!
All things considered, I'm pretty impressed with myself and how they turned out - looking at the picture I can see a couple of places I should have stretched them out a bit more, but overall, it's pretty good for a nail wrap virgin - even my husband likes them, he says they look like the kind of wallpaper that Roger Sterling would have in his office - at least I'm assuming that's a compliment...!

It's true I will be picking bits of wrap out of the carpet and couch for months but that's a small price to pay for proving to the world that I am NOT a nail strip loser!

They are supposed to last 7 days - I'm on day 4 now and they are still going strong - no chips or rips so I'm fully expecting them to last out the week!

You can check out the whole selection of designs and pick up some of your own here: http://www.nailpolishcanada.com/categories/nail-art/nail-polish-strips.html

Mascara Monday - Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara

Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara - $23 - for lashes that are "blown out" in all directions for the most dramatic, voluminous, glam-look in an instant and that stay fuller and lusher for longer. Meant to be a more extreme version of their High Impact Mascara - it has an oversized, multi-dimensional molded brush with a greater surface area making it easier to build lashes quicker and effortlessly. Mascara is deposited at the root of the lash and then combed through with each brush stroke leaving lashes separated, stretched and lifted. The dome tip aids in feathering so that even the tiniest of corner lashes are reached.
I like the original High Impact Mascara but I think this one is a little too extreme for me!
The formula is really rich and deep and no matter how I tried, there was no way to make it less dramatic - even with a light hand and a lash comb (right eye) there is still plenty of drama - and it's just a little too "spidery" for my taste!
What I do like about it is the lift - you can barely see my lashes in this closed picture they are up so high!

How an Uggs hater became an EMU lover thanks to the EMU Australia Fall/Winter 2012 Collection!!

Anyone who knows me or has been reading this site for any length of time is fully aware what my feelings on certain brands of footwear are (if you are catching up you can find my rant here) - having to watch girls slouch around in their broken down heeled boots with dresses no less, is enough to make me mental!

EMU Australia proves that sheepskin boots don't have to be UGG-ly with a collection of fashionable footwear that has me drooling!

It's not just feet either - there is a whole apparel and accessories line and I am especially in love with the jackets, although I wouldn't kick the sweaters out of bed either...

You also might be interested to know that if you're looking to shod or clothe the boy or the kids, they've got you covered there too.

Rose River Jacket; Whyalla Tank; Bunya Boot
Claremont Gilet; Ashby Boot
Sunday Island Jacket; Swifts Creek Beanie; Brooklana Boot
Airly Cardigan; Inverloch Skivvy; Dalma Boot

I'm not going to claim to love the classic line - but at least it has a moulded heel cup so the boot won't break down to that slouchy look I hate so - and they do have some fun colours this season including cobalt blue, berry and purple! And yes dammit, that sheepskin lining is comfy - but you still won't catch me wearing a pair without socks!
