Beauty junkies rejoice - Beautyphica has arrived!

Discovering a new destination for beauty products is one of my very favourite things and I especially love it when they offer new and wonderful brands that are not usually easily attainable!  So you can imagine my delight last week when I was invited to an event to celebrate the launch of Beautyphica.com!

Offering mostly European brands of hard-to-find skincare, bath, body and fragrance, Beautyphica aims to take the hassle out of online shopping.  Now I love online shopping but there are certain products that it is tricky for and skincare would be one of them.  Unless you have previously used or tested the product you are buying, it's hard to know if it will suit your skin or even something as simple as whether or not you will like the way it smells. This is where Beautyphica differs from other online companies - they encourage you to call them and discuss your needs with a beauty expert who is knowledgeable on all of the brands they carry.  As well, with every purchase you can select three products through an exclusive trial program.  Shipping is free for purchases over $100 and you'll get your package within days - and best of all, no customs charges!

What I also like about the site is that they limit the number of brands available at any one time which makes it great for people who can get overwhelmed at other sites with the sheer volume of choices!

What lines am I excited about? There are a couple I have heard of  - Ainy and L'Artisan Perfumeur but have never tried because they weren't sold here and a couple that I now want to try having had a chance to see them - Apot.Care and Katima'A!  But most exciting to me is the news that this month, they will be carrying Aesop!

Go check out the site yourself and discover some new lines at www.beautyphica.com and if you know any of these lines and think they are must tries, please let us know!

eBeauty.ca - beauty enabling at your service!

Things in life that make me happy: black jelly beans, watching clowns trip and fall (for real, not as part of their act), waking up thinking it's a workday and then realizing it's Saturday and new ways to acquire beauty products! As all of my Canadian friends know, sometimes it's not so easy to get our hands on the things we want. Sephora has made it a bit easier but they do annoying things like discontinue lines and restrict certain products from being sent to Canada so it's not perfect by any means!  Enter eBeauty.ca - they have an amazing selection of cosmetics, skincare, bath & body, hair, fragrance, tools, men's products and gifts - from both new and beloved brands, offer free shipping on orders over $75 (below that regular shipping is $7.95), easy returns and no annoying customs charges!  I need to dive deep and put together a list of all the things I MUST have but here are a few that struck me right off as needing to find a home with me!

3 Custom Color Specialists Lip and Cheek Stain in Lollipop - $28 - I have long admired this line on American blogs!

Butter London Jelly Sheer Colour in Stroppy - $17 - because I just love the word stroppy!
Paul & Joe Beaute Face Powder in Transparent - $46.20 - haven't been able to find this line in ages!
Pop Beauty Petal Jam - $15.40 - I've been eying this since last summer but hadn't been able to get my hands on it - problem solved!
Demeter Pick-Me-Up Spray in Vanilla Ice Cream - 30ml - $20.90 - yuuuuuuuuuuuuum!
And here's an exclusive offer they have going on right now - $180 worth of products for $45!  Includes:
Faux Patent Cosmetic Organizer Clutch
June Jacobs Ultra Light Citrus Moisturizer (17fl.oz) - valued at $69
Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel for Sensitive Skin (2oz) - valued at $42
stila Eyeshadow Refill Pan in Kitten (0.09oz) - valued at $24
Cargo Multi Mix Bronzer (1.01fl.oz) - valued at $30
Juice Beauty Reflecting Lip Gloss (0.28oz) - valued at $18

Immerse yourself at www.ebeauty.ca

What do you think of the site - any brands in there that you have been itching to get your hands on?

Thanks to Trendenzas - being trendy just became a lot more affordable!

We all know that it can be expensive to be trendy but here's a nifty concept that will take a bit of the sting out of a trendy price tag - Trendenzas.com is an online deal of the day website offering up to the minute trends at a deeply discounted price!  What's the catch?  Well, if you like it, don't wait, jump on it - there is one trend a day with a price that is good for only 24 hours (unless it's on Friday, then you can get it at that price until Sunday night).  Even nicer if you are in the US the price you see is the price you pay including taxes and shipping (outside of the US there is a $6 shipping charge which still isn't bad)!

So put Tendenzas.com on your daily list of websites to check out or even easier, sign up to receive their "The Daily Trend Email" in your inbox!

Here is Tuesday's trend - this extremely cute cocktail ring - retail price of $28 - Trendenzas price of $11!

Go to www.trendenzas.com to check out today's trend!

What do you think about being on trend?  Is it something you do at any price, would do it the price is right or just can't be bothered with?

Project Artisan: a New Designer Shopping Portal Has Arrived!

After my shopping adventures from last week, I wanted to introduce you to another type of shopping experience: Project Artisan is a new shopping website featuring designers who focus on craftsmanship, sustainability and ethical practices.  You'll find really original accessories, clothes from indie labels. I've asked a few questions to Robin Keyser, the founder of Project Artisan:

What's the concept behind Project Artisan, how did you get the idea?
Project Artisan founder Robin Keyser grew up understanding the plight of garment factory workers.  Her mother and grandmother both worked in factories manufacturing the fashions of their day.  Robin was taught that every piece of clothing, every accessory, has a story.  As a lover of fashion, Robin was always discovering emerging designers and introducing them to her friends and family.  She was inspired to start her company because she saw the need for one site that would offer socially responsible emerging and established designers a way to reach a global marketplace. Project Artisan offers high-fashion, ethical luxury items that have been specially selected to appeal to the eye and to the soul.

Who is the founder behind Project Artisan?
Robin Keyser  is a global fashion importer centered on fair trade practices in the garment industry. Robin  is a member of the Ethical Fashion Network
Long time volunteer Robin has been involved in numerous non-profit organizations including Second Harvest Food Bank, The American Heart Association and is on the Board of Directors for the Nashville Ballet.

What type of designers do you collaborate with? How do you pick the designers you want to work with?
Project Artisan designers produce high-fashion items in sustainable, socially responsible ways. That is what they all have in common.  Some of the designers are new, just emerging, and others have been established for quite some time.  Project Artisan likes offering new, emerging designers the opportunity to reach a larger audience.

To find new designers, Robin Keyser and her staff constantly search the Internet, read blogs, page through fashion magazines, travel to retail stores and listen through word-of-mouth.  Recently, new designers have been contacting Project Artisan, wanting to be a part of the site.  A lot of research goes into the final selection, and we make sure that any new designer’s manufacturing practices fit within our ideals.

All pictures: Alabama Chanin - featured designer of the month
What can we expect to see in the coming months?
We are very excited about adding new designers both here in the US and internationally.  We have plans to open our doors to international e-commerce in the next few weeks and have a list of designers we can’t wait to invite to join us.

Two of the international designers we will be adding:

Nike Kondakis, who works with Maasai women in Kenya to produce the most amazing designs from recycled parachutes and Ariane Dutzi who was just mentioned in Marie Claire magazine for her burlap bags produced with the skilled hands of women in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Sounds interesting? Then, check out Project Artisan's website here.

Miss June brings hippie chic to Montreal - and the rest of Canada!

I am a big fan of a tunic top - they hide a multitude of  sins, are comfortable and so pretty!  They go over pants, jeans skirts, even bathing suits and f you have the legs for it, you can even wear them as a dress!  If you are also a lover of the tunic you should check out Miss June - a Parisian brand newly arrived in Canada!  They have a boutique in Montreal  at 2030-B rue Crescent St. and another store planned for the end of fall.

The rest of us can shop at the international e-shop at www.missjune.ca - even better, for the rest of August, all purchases will be 20% off.  The site is very user friendly - each style can be viewed multi-dimensionally, there is an international size conversion chart and the weight of each piece is also listed to estimate shipping.

And of course the collection is lovely - very flowy with interesting details and a price range that is totally affordable - $50-$150.

I understand that they also do a rapid turnover of stock which means you will always find something new there - but also, if you love something, grab it, it might not still be around next visit!

Say Hello to Charlie & Lee, a New Designer Store For Canadians!

It seems that more and more independent labels are becoming available to Canadian Fashionistas. Charlie & Lee is a new boutique located on the harbor in Victoria, BC, but it's also a new online boutique offering a selection of the owners' favorite labels like Happy Socks, Iro or Rebecca Minkoff, a Hollywood favorite. What I've found interesting on Charlie & Lee's website is the way these clothes are presented: the intro video allows you to see the clothes moving and the website always includes 5 or 6 pictures to give you a good idea of how the garment really looks. And since the store is based in Canada, that means no duties or extra charges for Canadian customers. Sweeet!

Remember the clothes here are from independent labels so it will cost you more than Topshop or Zara, however the prices are well aligned with other similar stores and you're certainly buying better quality!

Central Park West - Baja Dress ($160)

Rebecca Minkoff - Clutch in black leather ($345) and Heartache in Camel ($575)

Factory by Erik Hart - Overlap strapped dress in light heather grey ($145)

Conversation Pieces offers free shipping to Canada!

I don't know about you but I love online shopping!  For the same reason I used to love swapping, I adore getting packages in the mail!  A lot of the great online places seem to be in the States and the sucky part is the shipping costs of course which are usually ridiculous.  If you do like online shopping here's something to check out next week - Conversation Pieces is offering free shipping to Canada as part of their Around the World in 5 Weeks promotion.  During the other weeks they are offering free shipping to Singapore, Britain, Australia and Hong Kong.

Now I've never ordered from them so I can't speak to the quality of their wares, but I will say that I took a look at their site and they have lots of cute pieces and the prices are not at all unreasonable.  They also have a great vintage section which I think is a neat idea!  Just keep in mind that if you love something, buy it, they don't carry unlimited quantities so when things are gone, they are likely gone for good - which would explain their tagline - Regret not what you buy, but what you don't buy!  May 31 - June 6 is Canada week for free shipping.

Nathalie Champagne - jewellery both romantic and whimsical

Since the One of a Kind Christmas Show and Sale is still going on until the end of this week, I thought I should keep showing you all the amazing jewellery I found there last weekend.  That way if something inspires you, and geography allows it, you can still go down and check it out.  So for something completely different from yesterday here is Ottawa's Nathalie Champagne - handmade beaded jewellery from booth W55.  Never have I seen such romantic looking pieces!  Some of her pieces are very over the top, but seeing that the statement necklace is a big trend right now, it totally works.  And as her large necklaces are all hand created and one of a kind, you won't be bumping into anyone else at a party wearing the same thing.  You just can't put a price on avoiding that kind of embarrassment! Of course creativity like this doesn't come cheap.  Her necklaces range between $150 for a single strand of pretties all the way up to $500 for the big one I'll show you below.  She also has earrings from $45-$125 and rings for $35.  All can be ordered online or if you are in Ottawa, at her shop.

She has lots of glass fruit in her designs which I love!  I bought myself a single stand of freshwater pearls with a glass strawberry in the middle, it's the cutest thing ever!  If you are looking for something to dress up your LBD for the holidays, you can't go wrong with Nathalie Champagne's designs!

Missy Industry - edgy jewellery that is not for the faint of heart!

One of my favourite November things every year is the One of a Kind Christmas Show and Sale which takes place here in Toronto.  While the spring show is where I find the best clothing from Canadian designers, the Christmas show always has the best jewellery.  This year I discovered Montreal's Missy Industry.  It was like my jewellery box from the 80's had been transported to the Direct Energy building for me to shop from.  Razor blade earrings, skulls galore and a Flying V guitar necklace, too cool!  Now I love edgy jewellery, never met a skull I didn't like and adore 80's kitsch.  If this is your thing too then you will want to check it out.  I picked up the "butterskull" necklace to the left because it combines two of my favourite things and I saw lots of other things I would have loved to go home with.  Luckily she has an etsy store so you and I can still go shopping, even when the show is over.  Best of all, her pieces are very affordable.  All shown are in the $50 range.

Vampires are back, cassette tapes, maybe not so much but they are both still cool on a necklace.

Bret Michaels would be touched to see you in these "Every rose has its thorn" earrings - he might even invite you to appear on Rock of Love!

These is still lots of time to check these out all of Missy's pieces in Booth Q-39 at the show.  The show runs until December 6.  And remember, her stuff would go great with Christelle's shoes from the other day!

Adorable thy name is shanalogic.com

Sometimes when my husband is trying to understand some purchase of mine or my latest obsession  he will say "you are such a girl!" And I think this pretty much sums up everything. I am a girl - I would even go so far as to say I am a total girly, girl so you can imagine my joy at my newest online discovery - http://www.shanalogic.com/

If cute had an address, this is where it would live! Don't worry, I haven't gone off the deep end, I know I'm not 16 anymore which means I would not wear the 2 below pictured items at the same time but damn skippy, I would wear them separately! As a matter of fact, I plan on ordering both of them and doing exactly that!

This would be a great place to find that really unique and special gift for your bff or sister, heck, they even have stuff for guys!  Not only do they have the cutest jewellery ever, but also stuffed animals, prints, clothing and ipod/iphone gear and did I mention that it's all handmande?!

What I really like about shanalogic is that it is an indie shop, meaning she is selling the work of independent artisans! This also means that if you see something you like, jump on it fast as many of the items are limited edition and once they are gone, that's it. I lost out on the most adorable cupcake scarf while I was trying to decide between it and the toast and heart shaped butter scarf - yes, I have issues.  But I won't be making the same mistake with this amazing raining sprinkles tee!  Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

Easily distracted by shiny objects...

If you are anything like me and get entranced by pretty things that sparkle, then get your butt over to this site stat!
Ginger Kitty Designs -

I admire people with artistic talent and this lady has it in spades.  She has been making jewelry from MAC packaging for awhile and has now branched out into nail polish jewelry, which if you think about it is freaking brilliant - what has prettier, sparklier colours then nail polish?!

This is her nailpolish swirl pendant which I think is absolutely beautiful!  And at $29.99, a real steal - you could never find something this original in the stores for twice the price.  I also noticed for the same price she will custom make you a necklace in the polish colour of your choice.  This would be a great idea if you are looking for an exact match for a special outfit or even bridesmaid dresses!  Nail polish must come in Seafoam!

As I was reluctantly tearing myself away from her site to get back to work, I stumbled across this piece which I think is so classic and pretty.  It's like the giant diamond eternity circle that I have been trying to talk my husband into, well without the diamonds, but at $22, I think this will be a much easier sell!
