Here comes the sun - safely with La Roche-Posay!

Is it not the greatest thing in the world to be waking up and going to work while the sun is out?! So much less depressing than doing it in the dark! Of course now I have to remember to add an extra step to my morning skincare routine - sunscreen! As a pale person, I've always been pretty diligent about wearing it since I burn so easily but I do seem to recall in years past that I didn't enjoy it so much, especially the sunscreens available for the face - they always felt thick and sticky or went on too white!

Luckily for everyone, things in the sun protection world are vastly improved now and there are lots of formulas out there to suit even the pickiest sunscreen wearer (me)!

Here is an old and new favourite of mine from La Roche-Posay - you will appreciate that both offer broad spectrum and photostable UVA and UVB protection, to prevent sunburn while also combating skin aging, pigmentation and DNA damage.

Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Lotion SPF 60 - 50ml - $26 -  not only does it absorb super fast, it has a mattifying, weightless finish which is perfect for under makeup and a blessing to anyone with oily skin!

Love, love, love this stuff - the only complaint I have is every time I run out and try to buy more, they're sold out and I have to hunt for it - so it would seem that lots of other people love it too!
Anthelios XL Lightweight Lotion SPF 60 - 100ml - $28 - absorbs quickly with a fresh, velvety finish and as an added bonus, it's paraben and fragrance free.

The Anthelios line also has sprays and sticks and other lotions if that's more your thing so check it out next time you are at your local pharmacy.
Along with protection comes education - did you know that 90% of skin cancers detected early enough can be cured? Here's a tool that will help you keep a handle on what's going on with your skin:  www.myskincheck.ca - an interactive website that will help you: evaluate your personal sun risk; monitor the development of new moles with the mole-check tool; and help you discover safe sun habits while you learn how to protect your skin.

And if you need some extra motivation...

Dior New Look 2012 Makeup Collection

In 1947 Christian Dior's first collection was considered astonishing and shocking, completely overturning the styles of the era with its floral-inspired shapes, rich colours and full skirts - thus the moniker "New Look".
Inspiration from the New Look was drawn for a new mascara - Diorshow New Look - with a revolutionary formula that creates multi-dimensional volume for a dramatic, lash-multiplying effect.
Diorshow New Look Mascara - $35 - multiplies volume lash by lash with a new intelligent nano-brush made of supple rubber and resistant plastic allowing for easy application and ultimate precision. The lower part of the brush is made up of four reservoirs and rows of separating spikes which load lashes from the root while allowing for maximum extension. While the upper part of the brush has a "lash catcher" micro-head which slips into the slightest gap to catch every lash, even the very shortest.

As well it has Lash Multiplier serum formula which instantly thickens and extends lashes with a polymer that adds stretch and volume enhancing properties to help coat each lash for extreme thickness, stretch and curl. And for long term benefits, the formula is also enriched with fortifying royal jelly extract which acts at all stages of the lash life cycle to reinforce lashes over time for a thicker fringe. For added drama is the intense colour effect obtained from an exclusive 3D effect, Dior Black Glass pigment which is coated with light-reflecting particles for a magnifying effect that increases the depth and shine of the colour.

The formula dries quickly and won't smudge.

Available in 090 Black, 264 Blue, 694 Brown
5-Coleurs Eyeshadow New Look Collection - $60 - they were the stars of Spring 1947 which have now been reinvented with an updated twist for 2012 - available in: 734 Grege - introduced in 1947, Dior created shades of white, brown or beige to go with each collection then in 1951 the natural element was reveled in a variation of brown named Terre de Frace which is at the heart of this palette, 834 Rose Porcelaine - rose was one of Christian Dior's favourite shades which reminded him of his childhood home hence this palette of pastel violet tones, 254 Bleu de Paris - a tribute to the Versailles blue of Marie-Antoinette reinterpreted in a soft version imbued with Parisian chic, 454 Royal Khaki - green tinged with a hint of yellow which appeared as a grand evening gown was the first shade to be crowned by Christian Dior and is not reinterpreted as an eyeshadow accessorized by gold and pearl shades.
Dior Heat Curl - $31 - Sephora only - eyelash enthusiasts will want to check out this nifty gadget which can be used on bare as well as mascaraed lashes.
Dior Vernis - $24 - 997 Blue Label - the edgy navy from the Dior Rock Collection, 707 Gris Montagne - from the Dior Spring 2011 collection of the same name.

Available February 12th - will you be stalking the counters? And while you are waiting, be amused by this ad for the Dior 3 Couleurs Smoky Eyes Palette!

Rihanna Gets Her Revenge in Her New "Man Down" Video...and It's Disturbing!

Rihanna's videos are often on the provocative side, but this latest video is pretty disturbing to me - and you guys should know by now, I'm not exactly the very sensitive type. I've even been told my heart was made of tar...but even for someone like me, the rape and murder themes in this "Man Down" video don't feel right! It's not thought provoking, it's just gratuitous violence to me. Killing someone who hurt you doesn't resolve anything, does it?

Anyway, have a look and let us know what you think!

Hop in Rihanna's California King Bed!

I nearly fell asleep watching this video, but the occasional flash of a hot guy's abs and Rihanna's gorgeous face helped me in making it through! Rihanna's softer makeup really suits her and makes her green eyes pop. I wish she would use this look more often!

Does Beyonce Run the World?

Beyonce debuts her new video "Run the World": it's visually interesting, the styling is amazing as usual and again...I don't care for this song. I find the hook even slightly annoying but I'm sure it will catch on like fire in Lisamarie's kitchen!

Make Up For Ever can make you look exactly like Britney Spears - well her video makeup look anyhow...!

The fine folks at Make Up For Ever were so stoked to see their Aqua Cream #2 in Steel being applied by Britney during her latest video "Hold It Against Me" that they had one of their celeb make up artists, David Hernandez, create a fun tutorial that shows you how to get her look from the video, step by step.

Aqua Cream was a natural choice for the video since the 100% sweat-proof, melt-proof formula guaranteed long-lasting color that stayed put through multiple dance numbers and under hot studio lights.  You can find the "Hold It Against Me" video here:

Willow Smith Whips Her Hair

What? Willow Smith has long hair now? The miniature diva was sporting a very edgy asymmetrical bob only a few minutes ago (I loved it so much I actually considered getting the same haircut) but she puts her new long braids to good use in this music video..."Whip My Hair" is actually pretty cool and Willow has lots of attitude - perhaps, too much ? -

Gucci Cruise 2011 Ad Campaign - Still Hot!

Gucci takes you on a new journey for Spring 2011 with this ad campaign - along with models Raquel Zimmermann and Nikola Jovanovic - and it's still by the pool! As designer Alex Perry would say: it looks retouched expensive and impossibly glamorous.

Who Owns Miley's Pants?

By today's standards, this video is not exactly scandalous - except when the pop singer is underage like Miley Cyrus -  I start wondering if this writhing around is really necessary, and if Miley owns any pants at all. And last, but not least: why did I watch 2 minutes of this Miley mess? The song is so eurodance circa 2005. Yawn. It's not even bad enough to inspire me.

If you've seen Miley's missing pants somewhere, please send us your tips!

There is Something about Chanel...Watch the Spring 2011 Runway Show!

As promised yesterday, here is more runway footage from Paris Fashion Week: this time it's 24 minutes of Chanel! This show was huge: a live orchestra with 80 musicians (seriously!), a garden with fountains, hundreds of people in the audience including Rachel Bilson, Keira Knightley, Vanessa Paradis (Johnny Depp's lady love and one of Lagerfeld's muses). We even got the youngest runway model ever: a cute 2 year-old all dressed in Chanel!

Fashionista Alert: Watch the Full Length Lanvin Spring 2011 Runway Show... Here!

This is the next best thing to a front row ticket at Paris Fashion Week...18 minutes of Lanvin: the full show, some unedited backstage footage with the models getting ready, Dita Von Teese stopping by to say hello, and Alber Elbaz (whose H&M collection will be revealed on November 2nd) talking about his inspiration... as if you were there.
As for the collection, the color palette is quite muted for spring but the long pleated skirts, pantsuits and elongated jackets are fluid and very spring like. Flats even made an appearance on the runway for a more relaxed look.

And there is MORE runway footage coming tomorrow! Can you tell when I'm excited?
