Winter seems to finally be loosening it's hold on Toronto but not before I had a chance to have another go at finding the perfect moisturizing body wash. This time I gave the Dove Nourishing Body Wash line a try. It comes in three formulas: Deep Moisture, Sensitive Skin and Gentle Exfoliating. It comes in two sizes: 354ml - $5.99 or 710ml - $10.99.
First off, I liked the shape of the bottles and the flip top, it was easy to grip and easy to flick the top off with your thumb while holding - I'm not that coordinated to begin with - factor in being soaking wet with soap in my eyes first thing in the morning - and everything needs to be as simple as possible!
The body wash itself was thick and creamy and lathered nicely which is important to me because if body wash doesn't lather, I don't believe it's actually doing an effective job cleaning me (the other firmly held philosophy I hold involves household cleaning products, if they don't smell like lemon or some other citrus fruit then I don't believe they actually got anything clean). It also rinsed off easily but left a feeling of moisture behind. I did end up putting a little bit of moisturizer on afterwards but only on my really dry bits and only because it was so cold out. During non-winter months, I think I could use these sans-moisturizer!
Most importantly, the smell. The Deep Moisture one had a nice fresh smell which I liked a lot. The Sensitive Skin one had no smell at all (and is also hypoallergenic).
Lastly, we come to the Gentle Exfoliating one, if you like a very light scrub, then this is the one for you! I probably wouldn't bother with it as I like my scrubs to have more exfoliating action to them. I am also not a fan of the smell, it was too strong and perfumy for my taste. The consistency was the same though, so if you like a tiny bit of scrub and a lot of scent then this might be more your style.
Overall, I was impressed with this line. I understand that they are now using this same moisture technology in the Dove Cream Oils and Dove go fresh body washes so I will have to check it out - the go fresh line has the best scents!
