Winter skin must-haves from SkinCeuticals, Bleu Lavande and CeraVe!

Feel like your skin has totally changed on you lately? It's not your imagination - the cold and dry winter weather accelerates water loss from the outermost layers of skin, causing it to become dry and flaky which can also lead to redness and irritation. So if you haven't switched up your daily seasonal skin routine from fall yet - now's the time and here are a few great choices to ensure a hydrated and healthy glow all winter long:

SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 - 48ml - $155 - helps restore the skin's external barrier and reinforce its natural self-regeneration while intensely nourishing mature skin to reduce visible signs of premature aging with a formula containing 2% pure ceramides 1 & 3 - synergistically proven to increase hydration and barrier function; 4% natural cholesterol - proven to accelerate barrier recovery in aging skin to improve the appearance of elasticity; and 2% fatty acids - aids in structural integrity of lipids to optimize skin’s overall lipid balance.

It has a very unique texture and a little goes a long way - take a bit from the jar and roll it between your fingers to warm it up before applying to the skin - it will soak in like magic!

Available from dispensing doctors, medical spas and high-end spas as well as online at skinceuticals.ca.
Bleu Lavande Body Butter
- 160ml - $21 - perfect for dry and very dry skin, it nourishes, soothes and hydrates the skin - even extra dry areas such as elbows, knees and heels - thanks to a soft and creamy gluten free formula containing 99.5% natural origin moisturizing ingredients including shea butter, olive oil and aloe leaf extract along with true lavender essential oil that makes it smell amazing.

Available at drug and grocery retailers across Canada and online at bleulavande.com.
CeraVe Therapeutic Hand Cream
- 85g - $13.99 - protects against and alleviates chapping, cracking and roughness due to dryness while helping replenish the skin's natural protective moisture barrier with a formula containing ceramides, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid for healthy, soft looking hands without a greasy feel.

Available at drug and mass retailers across Canada and online at well.ca.

Get skin that glows with Korres and SkinCeuticals!

Korres Wild Rose 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum - 30ml - $99 - a powerful brightening bi-phase serum that reduces the appearance of dark spots, dullness and skin discolorations to uncover  luminous skin.

With a unique formula that has two phases to maximize the results: the top oil phase is comprised of wild rose oil with 15% vitamin C for the ultimate in brightening and evening skin tone for a smooth, radiant complexion; the bottom water phase is a powerful brightening complex made with natural ingredients to minimize the appearance of skin discolorations. Along with additional natural ingredients such as vitamin C, provitamin B5, bisabolol and ginger root extract are also included for their antioxidant protection and ability to hydrate all skin types.

It's also great for what it doesn't contain - no synthetic fragrances or colour - just a light rose scent that is derived from wild rose extract; petrolatum, mineral oil, silicones, parabens, propylene glycol, or ethanolamine.

Available at Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques across Canada and online at beauty.shoppersdrugmart.ca.

The most important things to remember when using: before applying, shake well to mix the two phases together; and as with all brightening products applied during the day, sunscreen is a must!

My choice for a super-light, protective, top layer:
SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 - 50ml - $46 - provides high broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection with all natural physical filters, zinc oxize and titanium dioxide - in an ultra-sheer, mattifying fluid that's suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive.

It's alsoinfused with translucent colour spheres meant to enhance your natural skin tone. And unlike most products that do this universal colour thing that always ends making fair skin look muddy, this one actually does adjust to my shade and blends right in!

Available via dispensing doctors, medical spas and high-end spas - check out www.skinceuticals.com/canada. for more info and where to buy.

Get double the protection for your skin from SkinCeuticals!

It's the perfect time of year to be thinking about your skin protection and what it means for your skin! You are probably already aware that most of visible aging is caused by environmental damage - mainly from the UVA and UVB exposure you get from the sun - but what you may not know about is infrared radiation (IRA) exposure which is what is responsible for accelerated skin aging - yikes!

Studies suggest that IRA penetrates the skin more deeply than UVA and UVB causing free radical damage which accelerates signs of aging. This means that ideally, not only do you need a daily sunscreen, but also something to protect skin from free radicals.

SkinCeuticals already has that covered with topical antioxidant serums that work below the skin's surface to neutralize UV and IRA induced free radicals which cause environmental skin damage such as fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and lost elasticity. By strengthening skin's natural defense system against free radicals not blocked by sunscreens, they help protect the epidermal and dermal layers from the inside to correct visible premature aging.

You have a couple of choices: C E Ferulic - 30ml - $180 - increases firmness and replenishes lipids to reduce wrinkles and is ideal for dry, normal and sensitive skin; or

Phloretin CF - 30ml - $180 - diminishes hyperpigmentation and accelerates cellular renewal to help retexture skin and is ideal for oily, problematic and normal skin.

And of course you still need the sunscreen - great choices are: Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50 - 50ml - $46 - a weightless, mattifying fluid great for all skin types - even very sensitive, oily and acne prone. Or if you like to add a bit of tint try Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 - 50ml - $46

Available medical and high-end spas across Canada or easily online at: https://beautysense.ca/brands/skinceuticals.html

Get brighter, more even-looking skin with SkinCeuticals and Reversa!

Did you know that everyday elements including UV exposure, prescription drugs, and some professional treatments, can trigger the production of excess melanin in the skin’s lowest, unseen epidermal layers? This excess melanin rises to the surface of the skin causing visible and often stubborn discoloration such as post-acne marks and brown patches.

SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense - 30ml - $125 - a daily serum that targets visible skin unevenness for brighter looking skin.

Formulated to target multiple stages of discoloration with the latest generation of discoloration-fighting ingredients that include:

3% Tranexamic Acid helps to minimize the appearance of discoloration and brown patches with continued use and well as targets the hyperpigmentation pathway upstream, before excess melanin production even begins to prevent it happening;
5% Niacinamide helps reduce the appearance of discoloration
5% HEPES accelerates cell turnover; and
1% Kojic Acid improves skin brightness.

In just 12 weeks you can look forward to a reduction in the appearance of stubborn brown patches, discolouration, post-acne marks and overall skin tone and not only is it an excellent all-in-one product, it maintains and enhances the results of dermatologists’ procedures for hyper-pigmentation like lasers or chemical peels.

Available now at select dermatologist offices across Canada and online at SkinCeuticals.ca.
Of course, as with any product that deals with brightness and tone, you are wasting your time and money if you don't pair it with sun protection - you can use your favourite SkinCeuticals sunscreen or if you prefer to combine your sunscreen with your moisturizer here's a great new choice:

Reversa Urban Protection Hydrating Care SPF 30 - 50ml - $47 -  a lightly tinted moisturizer that reduces the appearance of skin blemishes and even out complexion while providing multi-protective action against environmental stressors with a formula containing antioxidant vitamin E and French Polynesia kopara extract - to help protect skin against urban pollutants causing dry skin and reduce the signs of aging; fragmented hyaluronic acid - brings a moisture surge and keeps skin deeply hydrated; and broad spectrum sun filters -  to provide UVA/UVB protection and maintain healthy, luminous skin.

Available at Shoppers Drug Mart stores across Canada.

Summer skincare made easy with SkinCeuticals!

I don't know about you but I tend to get a bit lazy with my skin in the summer - my skin gets oily so I don't tend to moisturize as much - to be honest, I try to do as little as possible - so if I only use 3 things on my skin this summer, these would be a great choice:

My most important summer skincare step is sunscreen - this one is nice and light so doesn't feel like it's clogging up my pores and has a bit of a tint to even things out - especially great since I usually want to skip foundation:

SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 - 30ml - $46.00 -
a sheer, tinted sunscreen fluid with 100% mineral filters to provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection, while promoting natural radiance and a more even skin tone without a white cast and is water resistant for up to 40 minutes.

I don't usually bother with a moisturizer in the summer but I still want something super-light on my skin working hard to make it look better - the addition protection benefits are a big bonus:

SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF - 30ml - $175.00 - a daytime vitamin C antioxidant face serum that delivers advanced environmental protection and remains effective for a minimum of 72 hours - it  neutralizes damaging free radicals, improves the appearance of discolouration to even out overall skin tone and diminishes the appearance of fine lines.

At the end of the day I want to make sure to remove all that dirt, sweat, makeup and sunscreen that my skin has accumulated:

SkinCeuticals LHA Cleansing Gel - 240ml - $49.00 - an exfoliating gel cleanser that removes excess oil and makeup as it decongests pores, smoothes skin texture and brightens skin with a blend of salicylic acids to address breakouts and visible signs of aging.

Prefer a cream cleanser? Then check out SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser my absolute favourite cleanser for taking off sunscreen!

Available at SkinCeuticals dermaspas and online at SkinCeuticals.ca.

This week I'm obsessed with... SkinCeuticals Gntle Cleanser and Live Clean Face Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 45!

As anyone who has ever seen my pasty white face can probably guess, I am a year-round avid sunscreen user - even in the dead of winter there is at least an SPF 30 slathered all over my face - which is great - until it's time to take it off - this can be a real struggle!

Most of the cleansers I possess have been relegated to be "morning" cleansers - simply because they just don't have the cleaning power needed to take off sunscreen - and most of the ones I have found that do the job have some sort of exfoliating action which is too rough to use on my sensitive skin on a daily basis - what's a sun-cautious girl to do?

As it turns out she should check out the amazing new formula of an old favourite...

SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser - 200ml - $44.00 - with a gentle and creamy texture and a new and improved moisturizing formula that includes emollient-rich surfectant, allantoin and glycerin to remove impurities, long-wear makeup and sunscreen (!!!) while delivering essential hydration to dry, sensitive or post-procedure skin.

Available at medi-spas and dermatologist offices across Canada and online at SkinCeuticals.ca.

I haven't found a sunscreen yet that it doesn't easily take off including my much loved:

Live Clean Face Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 45 - 113g - $ $15.99 - with a 98% naturally derived lightweight formula that is non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested and offers broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection along with 80 minutes of water resistance that was designed specifically for the sensitive skin on the face. It contains active ingredients zinc oxide and titanium dioxide and best of all, is free of petroleum and other nasty chemicals.

Available at Shoppers Drug Mart and Walmart stores across Canada.

SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier - for firm, smooth and plump skin!

SkinCeutical H.A. Intensifier - 30ml - $120 - a multi-beneficial corrective serum with a serum-gel texture that creates a smooth canvas on skin and is proven to amplify skin’s hyaluronic acid levels by 30%.

Why would you even want more hyaluronic acid you may ask...

Hyaluronic acid is a powerful natural humectant which helps regulate moisture levels in skin. With age, skin experiences a gradual decline in hyaluronic acid levels and production begins to decrease, contributing to signs of aging including wrinkles deepening, formation of jowls and loss of skin tautness and rough, uneven skin texture - I know, I had you at jowls!

The unique formulation in H.A. Intensifier contains a high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid, proxylane and botanical extracts of licorice root and purple rice to support skin’s hyaluronic acid levels and deliver surface hydration, helping improve the visible appearance of skin by reducing the look of crow’s feet, nasolabial folds (parenthesis around the mouth or laugh lines), and marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth down to chin) for smoother, firmer and plumper skin with visibly improved texture.

Also makes a great compliment to use as home care after dermal fillers to extend their life; but of course consult with your physician for individual at-home advice after procedures.

Available at select dermatologist offices, medical spas and high-end spas across Canada - visit www.skinceuticals.com/canada to find one near you.

Enjoying the calm before the storm at the TIFF Essentials Lounge 7 2016!

EGPR and brand partners were back again this year for the seventh season with the TIFF Essentials Lounge at The Richmond in Toronto with a one-day event that welcomes invited members of the media to experience pampering in preparation for all the craziness of  TIFF!

This is the week that there are a bunch of lounges but I must admit, I always look forward to and enjoy Essentials Lounge the most - the products and services are always new, interesting and most needed - and this year was no exception1
New to me was ,en's and women's activewear label Colmar - known for their specially designed pieces for activities including golf and skiing as well as innovative and stylish all-round wear, the brand is loved for its carefully engineered and ultra wearable designs with Italian flair. With warm winter-ready quilted designs, sleek moto-inspired jackets and essential windbreakers made from premium natural and technical fabrics.
You get a really good feel for the reflective qualities of the jacket's technology when you take a flash pic!
I fell in love with the Colmar Woman's Empire Research Down Jacket - $770 - super light and water repellent with technical fabric padded in down - to keep you warm while looking great! Available at www.LiveOutThere.com.
The experts stylists from KMS California were on hand to perk up humidity stricken hair - they had products for every hair type and issue you can think of including one that is my new fave:
KMS Free Shape 2 in 1 Styling + Finishing Spray - 174g - $24.95 - a heat activated shaping and finishing spray with a unique technology that creates smooth shaping with hot tools while at the same time holds like a hairspray to help create perfect curls or smooth straightened hair. Available at salons across Canada - check out www.KMSCalifornia.com to find one near you.
Saucony known for their high-performance running shoes was showing off their lifestyle line - aka cute stylish shoes meant for everyday life that are hella comfortable!
Perfect for me because I believe one should only run if something is chasing you! I fell in love with these ultra-adorable Life On The Run Jazz Original shoes - $95 - with a nylon/suede upper and a padded collar and tongue for ultra-comfort and a footbed that provides superior shock absorption, fit and extra comfort - and did I mention how cute they are?!?
And it was nice to see some old favourites too including Thursday Plantation natural oils with my already beloved Tea Tree Oil.
For Beloved One Melasleep Brightening Bio-Cellulose Mask - with a new formula developed to fight pigmentation in the skin and help skin look brighter.
And something my face never goes outside without - SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV Defense SPF 50!
Smashbox was showing off their latest and greatest - Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick - $28 - in 20 shades that offer eight-hour wear with a featherweight, comfortable formula that stays put and keeps color looking as fresh and flawless as the first swipe. I tried out a bright red-orange shade - Thrill Seeker - that looked fab!
Who wouldn't be hungry after all that? Luckily Fully Loaded T.O. was on hand with a food truck full of nibbley goodness and although I was really curious to know how one would stuff a chicken wing full of mac 'n' cheese, I went with the buttermilk chicken tenders with thai sauce - delicious!

SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2 : 4 : 2

SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2 : 4 : 2 - 40ml - $140 - an anti-aging treatment with a lightweight and fast-absorbing texture that refills cellular lipids to chronologically-aged skin to help with signs of accelerated aging.

Not sure what lipids do for the skin? They actually play a critical role in skin health including healthy cell signaling, cell turnover, barrier function and natural self repair - so keeping lipid levels maximized is what will keep skin looking healthy and younger! This formula is great for that with a maximized concentration of pure reparative lipids including 2% ceramindes, 4% natural cholesterol and 2% fatty acids to correct and nourish the skin by refilling essential skin lipids, restoring the external barrier and supporting natural repair - for improved skin texture, laxity, evenness and overall radiance.

Obviously this is a cream for older skin but if you have super dry skin of any age and money to burn you will love how nourishing this feels so go ahead and slather it on!

This week I'm obsessed with... SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV Defense SPF 50!

SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV Defense SPF 50 - 30ml - $44 - a 100% physical sunscreen meant for normal to combination or oily skin formulated with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to provide high broad spectrum UV protection.

As anyone with combo/oily skin knows, finding a decent sunscreen for our skin is a pain as most of them end up making skin look even greasier then it already is. Not so with Physical Matte, it has a weightless mousse texture which not only helps skin maintain a matte finish even in hot, humid or extreme conditions and keep it looking fresh, but it also refines skin texture for a minimized pore appearance and dries to a powder finish, helping makeup go on smoothly. The other great thing about it is there is no white film left behind which is my pet peeve with many facial sunscreens - and if you can see white on my pale skin, I can't imagine what it must be like for people who actually have pigment in theirs - no residue, no stickiness - just sun protection that you can apply and forget is even there!

Available at select dermatologist offices, medical spas and high-end spas across Canada - visit www.skinceuticals.com/canada to find one near you.

Hanging out at the TIFF 2015 Essentials Lounge - otherwise known as the day that everything went pink...

TIFF is back in town and it's time to hit the lounges where everything you need to survive TIFF and look/smell/feel wonderful the rest of the year can be found!

First stop was the Essentials Lounge - always one of my favourites - with a setup so nice that it's impossible to take a bad picture.... except I did - for some reason when I got home all of my pictures were pink. Was I in a wonderful world where suddenly everything is pink...?

Sadly no, I'm just a moron who can't operate what is supposed to be a simple camera - so thank heavens for Ryan Emberley who took all of these lovely photos and allowed me to use them!

Pink photos certainly would have worked for the adorable Cake Beauty Smart car!
And would also have been fine for Cake Beauty Satin Sugar Infused Texturizing Beach Spray which adds texture and volume to hair without drying it out or making it feel hard and crunchy the way beach sprays usually do! For more info visit cakebeauty.com.
I then sniffed and admired the many fragrances from the Clarins Fragrance group including Azzaro's newest fragrance for women -  Azzaro Pour Elle Eau de Parfum with a floral woody amber scent - full review to come soon! More info on on the fragrances can be found at clarins.ca.
Security eventually had to pry my grubby little fingers off the Dior Holiday Collection's display - so glamorous and this doesn't even show the shadow palette or the gold highlighter brick which is going to have to be seen to be believed (my apologies to whoever had to clean up the drool)! More lustworthy Dior beauty can be found at dior.com.
I was then introduced to magic underwear from Knixwear - that are seamlessly constructed with high performance fabrics that take care of moisture and odour and offer a choice of gusset technology that do wonderful things like be absorbent, leak resistant and have moisture lock sides! Check out knixwear.com for more info.
SkinCeuticals was offering much-needed peels and an intro to their newest product - Metacell B3 - $110 - a silky emulsion to correct early signs of photoaging - by strengthening skin's moisture barrier, renewing skin by increasing cell turnover, reducing localized discolouration, decreasing diffuse redness, boosting hydration volume and enhancing skin's firmness. Find more info at skinceuticals.com/canada.
All that TIFF walking was made bearable with a stylish pair of Saucony kicks (that's what the kids still say right?) in Jazz Original and Shadow Original styles - both offering comfort, support and a lot of style. You still don't have my permission to wear them with a pair of socks and your dress or suit for the hike from the Go train to the office (horrible, horrible - please invest in a cute pair of walking flats and stop doing that!) - but with shorts, jeans or even a casual skirt - adorable! You can score a pair of your own from $80-$90 - find more info at saucony.ca.
It was nice to see the familiar face of Kosmea - their Facial Cleansing Wipes might be the only thing that will be able to take this day off - while the Hydrating Rosewater Mist is just what I needed on a hot day of running around!
Parched loungers were treated to a nice cold Vitamin Water in your choice of flavour and zero-ness (although personally I think the world is getting a little weird when water needs to be zero...) All will be explained at vitaminwatercanada.ca.
But let's be honest, I just came for the donuts - Krispy Kreme wonderfulness - mmmmmmmmmmm! Their delicious website can be found at www.krispykreme.ca.

It's a rough life but somehow I make it through...

Eye Love Wednesday - SkinCeuticals Physical Eye UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 50

We know that the skin around our eyes is much thinner then the rest of the face so tends to be the first place to show the signs of aging so we should be doing a better job to protect it - my excuse has always been the sunscreen is irritating and gets in my eyes which is no longer an issue thanks to:

SkinCeuticals Physical Eye UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 50 - 10ml - $37 -  a mineral-based eye-area-specific sunscreen composed of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, a gentler way to protect the delicate eye area.

This really is great stuff, not only does it work to protect the skin around the eyes from signs of aging, the formula is budgeproof and tinted so you can use it as you would a primer to keep eyeshadow in place all day and brighten up dullness and darkness around the eyes!

Available at select dermatologist offices, medical spas and high-end spas - visit www.skinceuticals.com/canada to find one near you.
