Smart Cover...Well it's All in The Name!

 Joy Bryant

Let's get something out of the way first: if you're after a very light coverage concealer, the Smart Cover Concealing Creme is not for you. However, if you've trying to totally cover blemishes, imperfections or dark circles, you may have found a new best friend.
The kits come in two colours, one for light to medium skin, another one for medium to dark skin which cover pretty much all skin tones. Now when you start applying this concealer it can be a little challenging to come up with the right color as you may have to mix the various shades in your kit - but for me, this was a great thing as I normally have a hard time finding a concealer in the right (aka -dark enough) shade for me, the kit allowed me to blend my perfect colour.  It conceals very well, just be careful not to apply too much or you could get the mask effect. Also, there is little transfer, this concealer is not going anywhere, in fact, you can go out, do your thing and it will still take you a good makeup remover to clean your face completely.

All in all, I like the price  ($29.75 for new customers) and the coverage, this is great for women with skin conditions or scars to hide, if you don't fall in this category, you might find it more coverage then you need.  Just bear in mind,  it takes a bit of work to apply it properly, so be aware, you cannot use it in a hurry!

Jacob wants you to think pink for spring!

As far as I'm concerned, it's always time to be thinking pink so I am happy to go along with Jacob's declaration and knowing how much it will horrify Christelle makes it that much better!

Ruffle dress - $89 - I love the print on this one and that the ruffles seem to start below hip level which is much more flattering to us hippy people!

Draped Tunic - $69 - I love this top and I'm going to have to try it on but I suspect it will look better on someone with tiny boobs and a tiny waist!

JOSEF Ruffle Cardigan - $125 - I think this one looks fun although I'm going to need to see it in person but I really like the look of the asymmetrical ruffle.

If you don't like your pink to close to your face how about a pink A-Line Skirt - $49

It's pink, it's ruffled, it's Christelle's nightmare come to life! Ruffle Blouse - $48

Two trends for the price of one! Pink Ombré Scarf - $25

What do you think of pink?  Will it have a prominent place in your spring wardrobe?

Jurlique Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator Review

You know what big fans of natural products we are here at Beauty Crazed and Christelle so loves her Jurlique Purifying Mask that I thought it was high time that I tried some Jurlique myself!  I decided to give Jurlique Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator - 50ml - $49.50 a go because I love fruit and I love exfoliators so it seemed impossible that this stuff wouldn't be great!  First off, the smell is amazing, very citrus, which I love!  The name might be a bit misleading if you are used to your exfoliators being the scrub type - this exfoliator is a peel, so no roughness to it at all!  It's very easy to use, you clean your face, apply a thin layer of the exfoliator to your face and neck, avoiding the eye area, leave it on for up to five minutes and then just rinse it off with water.  Now I've heard some people mention that they felt nothing at all when it was on their face but I actually felt a very small tingle - which  I like because then I feel like something is happening!  It came off easily with water and my skin felt very soft afterwards.  You can use it 2-3 times a week and be sure to wear your sunscreen as products that contain AHAs can really increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun.  I also found after using it that my moisturizer seemed to work better and soak in easier so that was a nice bonus!

Jurlique is an Australian line and this product is chock full of natural enzymes and extracts native to Australia such as: Quandong, also known as desert peach, which grows from a tree native to Australia that's related to the Sandalwood tree.  Quandong Extract is high in Vitamin C and essential fatty acids to help improve the complexion and assist with gentle exfoliation, Desert Lime, which is rich in antioxidant Vitamin C - the fruit works to promote youthful looking skin and helps gently exfoliate, Acacia (Wattle), Australia's national flower is also a gentle exfoliant.  Other key ingredients include Pumpkin Enzyme to exfoliate and Sugar Cane, Lemon, Orange and Apple to improve dull complexions for more even skin tone and brighter, clearer complexion.  Natural Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Lactic, Malic and Citric Acids promote cell turnover and radiant skin, while Willow Bark Extract improves tone, texture and appearance with natural Beta Hydroxy Acids.  Prickly Pear Stem and Green Tea leaf invigorate the skin with antioxidants and humectants to make the skin feel healthier and hydrated while helping to promote firmer skin.  Prickly Pear Flower helps soften fine lines and wrinkles through gentle exfoliation.

If you've ever felt that manual exfoliation (with a scrub) is too harsh for your skin or you are just looking for a new way to softer skin then the Jurlique Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator is definitely worth a try!  You can score your own Jurlique products at Sephora and Holt Renfrew.

Cosmo's Sexiest Beauty Secrets - here's a hint, it's not wearing flannel to bed!

Cosmo's beauty bible hits the shelves this month in paperback - Cosmo's Sexiest Beauty Secrets - The Ultimate Guide to Looking Gorgeous from the Editors of Cosmopolitan (Hearst Books / April 2010 / ISBN:  9781588168290) - $21.95 - it contains hundreds of Cosmo's best insider tips and tricks on scoring a flawless complexion, creating a ton of hairstyles and working the latest makeup trends - they say it's packed with everything I need to know to look my absolute hottest.  Now I know it's silly to mess with perfection, but I still thought I would take a peek and see if there was something in there that actually could improve me, crazier things have happened! Here's what I found that I thought was especially interesting/fun:
- aging by ethnicity
- finding the right foundation shade
- look great in any light
- tips for every eye shape
- making teeth look brighter
- why red lips drive crazy and lots more...

It also has a cute little wheel on the front that you turn to reveal the page number where you can find various tricks!

I must admit, I stopped buying Cosmo magazine years ago when they stopped being beauty/fashion focused and became more about the sex articles - I'm married, what do I need that for?! ;-)  But this book brings back the Cosmo I remember, keeping the sex where it belongs, in the makeup!

Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2010 Eye Event

The eyes have it this spring at Yves Saint Laurent and it is total love at first sight for me!  If you are like me there are some brands that you love not only for their wonderful products, but also for their amazing packaging and as usual, YSL does not disappoint me!  For their spring eye event, YSL introduces 12 eyeshadows, 12 eyeliners and a new mascara.

Ombre Solo - Lasting-Radiance - Smoothing Eye Shadow - $32 - 12 intense, radiant colours in 3 major colour statements to create a multitude of combinations and styles:  smoky sexy - lush, vaporous shades for extreme sophistication, fleshy naturals - from nude to pink lingerie for intimate skin-toned make-up and technicolour fantasies - for women who like to play up colour passionately.

The shadows are meant to have the sensorial texture of a precious fabric.  They contain spherical silicone powders that provide a silky feel, exceptional glide-on application and a smoothing effect; lamellar powders with optical properties that diffuse light in all directions; synthesized mica that creates extremely luminous colour, unlike natural micas that are opaque, it ensures transparency and purity; an adhesive binder that helps give the colour extremely long lasting quality and fidelity on the skin; and an amino acid derivative, used as a coating to ensure comfort and hold.  Helps the colour stay true without running or fading and to keep its freshly applied look.

And of course the gold compact is adorable, substantially weighted with two brushes that snap into the lid -  foam tipped applicator as well as a brush.

And I will attest to everything that has been claimed, the shadows feel like silk on your skin, the pigmentation is amazing and they blend like a dream!

Dessin Du Regard - Long-Lasting Eye Pencil - $28 - sheathed in sleek lacquer with a applicator-blender,  it is a versatile tool that lends itself to multiple uses - kohl, eyeliner or eye shadow and produces a variety of liner effects from a perfect precise line to a smudged, smoky look.  They come in a "wardrobe" of 12 luminous shades - 6 solft colours to illuminate the eyes and 6 intense hues to shade them.  From timeless black to trendy purple.

The pencils contain a pigment saturated formula for intense colour that stays true for hours and hours and a glide-on texture for comfort and ultra-long hold.  They are manufactured with a new "High Temperature Technology", where the colour cores are extruded under high heat.  This ensures the incorporation of an exceptionally large percentage of pigments and also gives the pencils excellent stability.  Also added is adhesive waxe to seal in the colour for impeccable hold so it will stay put and never run as well as jojoba oil to add comfort and creaminess.

I'll tell you one thing, these pencils sharpen better than any other pencil I have ever sharpened, I got a perfect tip without losing too much of the pencil.  And it's not just the sharpener they give you because I tried the sharpener with one of my problem pencils with the usual crappy results.  As far as staying power, it was excellent, it didn't stay on my waterline but I didn't expect it to.  I made it through a whole day, including a trip to the gym and my liner was still intact at the end of the day.  I do recommend using a waterproof eye makeup remover to get it off easily!

Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils - Noir Radical - $36 - the two-toned gold tube is so elegant that you just know that whatever is inside must be good.  I haven't actually tried it but it is definitely on my "lust" list!

To give the coveted false eyelash effect, it contains a Triple Film Complex for a triple performance:  breathtaking volume, gorgeous curl and extra long hold which consists of:  a coating film - thickens each lash to create spectacular volume, a conditioning film - sheathes the lashes without clumping to maximize the curling effect of the brush and a stabilizing film - forms an invisible, vinyl polymer shield that maintains the colour without stiffening the lashes, and boost its lasting qualities.  It also contains a complex of bio-active sugars of plant origin combines with pro-vitamin B5 which forms a moisture-preserving barrier on the lashes to more effectively protect them.

This is how they recommend it be applied - Place the brush against the lash line and draw upwards in a zigzag stroke to thoroughly coat each lash.  And don't forget to brush lightly on the lower lashes!  Then apply light pressure on the upper lashes with a finger or the brush to enhance the curling effect.

Available at Holt Renfrew, selected Bay and Murale stores.

Pantene announces their new spokesperson - YOU!

A mysterious e-mail came our way yesterday letting us know that Pantene was going to be announcing their new spokesperson today at noon but with no clue as to who it might be.  I tried begging, pleading and guilt tripping to try and find out the identity of this mystery person to no avail, no one was talking.  So then I started thinking about people with lots of hair that it could be:  Dee Snider? Dolly Parton? Snufalufagus? With so many choices and no clues, it was impossible to guess so I was forced to wait to find out with everyone else!

During a noon webcast, current Pantene spokesperson Stacey London along with a rather disturbing guest host in the form of Bret Micheals announced who the new hair star is going to be - you!  That's right, Pantene is gearing up to find their very first reality hair star! What's in it for you?  How about your very own Pantene commercial to air May 25th during the season finale of a major television show.  As well you will win a "Rock Star experience" which from what I could gather involved, Poison, Bret Micheals, his tourbus and hopefully a whole bunch of hand and body sanitizer.  You can find all the prize info here.

So what to you say - ready to do your famous hair flip for the camera.  If my hairdresser hadn't done such a hack job on my hair recently I might be temped to try just to experience those jillion watt lights that they use for commercials that make your hair look so shiny!  All you have to do is submit a video by April 18 - be yourself, show your personality and tell the nice people at Pantene "That's why I am the first reality hair star"!  Check out the submissions guidelines on exactly what you need to do here.

You can find all info and details at www.pantene.com/realitystar the contest is open to Canada and the US except for Quebec and Maine who always get screwed out of entering cool contests.

Even if you have no desire to be on TV you can still go to the site and vote for your choice.

And if you enter, let us know and we'll all vote for you!

Bobbi Brown strips for spring 2010 - Color Strips Palettes that is!

You know how much I love a palette - it must be the inner artist in me - it just makes me happy to see a whole bunch of beautiful eye and lip colours together in the same place - and because Bobbi Brown likes to see me happy they have put together these lovely palettes for spring!  Seeing as I'm a nice person and I know my friend Elvira does not like to have her eye and lip colours touching, I asked the nice Bobbi Brown designers to make sure there is a cover that goes over the eyeshadows to protect them from those bully lip colours - genius no?!

Bobbi's philosophy behind these palettes is that everyone can wear bright shades, so she put together pops of colour plus the perfect neutrals that make them work for everyone.  A complete spring eye, lip and cheek wardrobe.  Each palette has five eye shadows and three shades of Pot Rouge designed to work together.

Orchid Color Strips Palette - $70 - so pretty, I am going to have to see it in person to make a final determination on whether it needs a new home with me or not...

Bonfire Color Strips Palette - $70 - lovely wearable neutrals if that's more your thing!

Aquamarine Color Strips Palette - $70 - I am in love with this one and it will be mine!

Bobbi Brown is available at Murale and Holt Renfrew go grab yourself one (or two)!
