Hammam Spa - tranquility awaits you in the heart of Toronto!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I would make an excellent rich person. There would be none of that keeping my job and going to work stuff, I would spend all my time at the spa - really, there are enough spa services out there that I could get something different done every day!

Hammam Spa is one of the spas that I will be sure to visit often - fashioned on a traditional Turkish bath and even includes an authentic Turkish Steam Room! Just bear in mind that the steam room is co-ed and that during TIFF you might find Colin Farrell hanging out there - either of these things could be construed as negatives, you make up your own mind.

Upon entering Hammam, I could immediately feel the peace and tranquility, and the smell - wow, it just smells great - there is just something about the smell of a spa that just makes me happy!
Services available include: facials ($130-$175), peels ($70), microdermabrasion ($125), massage ($75-$195), body treatments ($120-$140), epilation ($15-$100) - and always my favourite - manicures ($30-$60) and pedicures ($45-$75) - so of course that's what I went for!

As you can see in the pic above, you sit on a throne-like chair for the pedicure - great for having a pedicure party - you can all just sit in a row and chat, or if you want solitude the curtain can come down to separate the stations! The lovely Morgan made quick work of my winter-abused feet and she didn't even roll her eyes when I changed my mind about polish colour and made her hunt down the perfect turquoise! I left with hands and feet that you wouldn't know had ever done a day of work!

I heard that some of our crazy lovely readers do not enjoy spa-ing, I won't pretend to understand it but I will give you another reason to check out Hammam - beauty products of course! Shop lines like Juara (an amazing botanical line), Naturelle D'Orient (an organic Argan oil line), Altru and faves like Dermalogica - maybe the atmosphere will inspire you to get something done too!

You'll find Hammam Spa at 602 King Street West in Toronto - 416-366-4772

Quartz Texture - over a brighter polish of course makes it stand out more.

Mascara Monday - Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils Waterproof Mascara in Majorelle Blue

The Yves Saint Laurent Summer collection has a mascara in it that will have you looking twice at just how blue it is!
I'm pretty sure I used to wear blue mascara back in the 80's - but I did lots of stupid things back then,  most of which I don't care to revisit...
Don't expect crazy volume of length but you sure will get all the blue you ever wanted, and then some!

Overall, I think I might have too much lash for blue mascara - this kind of thing is better served on skimpy little Glitter Geek lashes!

Kibio Velvet Skin Moisturizing Body Milk - 200ml - $36 - with katafray, olive and green banana, it hydrates and firms the skin in one step with a rich, non-oily texture that assures immediate and long-lasting hydration.

A refreshing gel that smells amazingly fresh that cools as it nourishes, hydrates and moisturizes for skin that is soft and smooth and is excellent for use after sports, sun exposure and as a restorative at the end of the day to help comfort body, mind and spirit.

Available from your Arbonne rep - locate a consultant or shop online at www.arbonne.ca
Philosophy Hope In A Jar Advanced Skin Smoothing Body Lotion - 240ml - $33 - a lightweight, fast absorbing lotion for total body hydration that helps maintain skin's natural moisture barrier, while the ester of lactic acid provides a gentle exfoliation to help promote smooth, healthy-looking skin, as well, the formula is antioxidant enriched to help protect skin against environmental attack - look forward to skin that feels noticeably softer and more supple.

Available exclusively at Sephora and sephora.com
Fresh Seaberry Restorative Body Cream - 240ml - $32.50 - with an ultra-nourishing formula and creamy rich texture that moisturizes and soothes dry, itchy skin with  a high concentration of seaberry oil (also know as seabuckthorn), a super restorative oil packed with powerful antioxidants rich in omegas 3, 6, 7 & 9, extracted from the berries of a plant native to Russia that contain "survival proteins" - nutrients that help them withstand 100-dgree temperature changes. As well the cream contains: cranberry seed oil; sea lavender, sal seed butter, apricot kernel seed oil and jojoba seed oil.

The cream feels great but it's the smell I especially like - it's hard to describe - a little bit fruity and little tart - it's very unusual!

Available at Sephora and sephora.com
La Mer The Reparative Body Lotion - 200ml - $165 - delivers the anti-aging power of a serum to the body, renewing and smoothing on contact. Contains the signature La Mer nutrient-rich Miracle Broth along with The Reparative Ferment - a careful bio-fermentation of clarifying algae, marine peptides and rock samphire to accelerate skin's natural renewal while helping erase the signs of damage and age; and a unique Marine Ferment - a deeply nourishing lipid-rich supplement derived from marine microorganisms that helps prevent dehydration and strengthen the skin's moisture barrier - to help visibly firm and revitalize skin. Skin is instantly hydrated and luminous as dryness is healed, visible damage is repaired and irritation smoother. Over time, age spots are brightened, texture is smoothed and lines and wrinkles appear diminished - skin looks firmer and more radiant for a more youthful appearance.

Available at Holt Renfrew and www.lamer.com

Let's hear it for the boy! Or at least menswear inspired watches from Marc Jacobs, mark. and Guess!

So I thought I was following the whole menswear inspired watch deal - for a change I thought I was actually on trend! Sadly, it was pointed out to me the other day that although yes, my watch is clunky and over sized the fact it is hot pink, takes it out of the menswear category! Killjoy!

Apparently it has to be gold or silver to really count - I don't know who makes up these rules and although I still love Mr. Pinky, these are the ones I've been eying lately in my sad attempt to be a little bit timely (get it? - timely? I kill me!):

Marc by Marc Jacobs Amy Watch - $175 - featuring stainless steel 36MM case with logo etched on topring.Stainless steel bracelet. White dial with silver hands and silver applied 12,3,6 and 9 and 8 pave stones at all other hours.

Available at www.marcjacobs.com

I love how sleek and modern this one looks!
mark. Borrowed From The Boys Watch - $44 - with a classic menswear style in goldtone with a foldover clasp closure and faux rhinestone bezel to add a flash of femininity.

Available from your Avon rep - 1-800-265-AVON or online at www.avon.ca

I like the sparkle but I'm not sure if it isn't too small to really be as manly as I'm looking for...?
Guess Bold Contemporary Chronograph Watch - $135 - silver tone case an dial on a steel bracelet offers a stopwatch function and 24 hour/Intl. time/date.

Here's a really manly looking watch - this one might be too big but I do love the way a big watch makes my wrists look tiny (the same reason men like women with small hands!)

Decisions, decisions...thoughts anyone?

The Body Shop has launched Wood Positive, a brand new initiative that aims to plant and protect more trees than it uses in its supply chain, thereby increasing the world’s natural resources rather than depleting them.
Launching tomorrow on Earth Day, April 22nd, the Wood Positive initiative is an ongoing commitment that will be targeting biodiversity hotspots all over the world. Together with partner The World Land
Trust, The Body Shop is contributing to the world’s resources by planting and protecting over
100,000 trees in the Ecuadorian Andes and the highly endangered Atlantic Rainforest. The Body
Shop is making an annual commitment of approx $150K, an amount which is calculated based on
its use of wood materials from the previous year.

Endemic tree species were selected specifically for their positive impact on local biodiversity,
in a bid to help restore fragile habitats and regenerate land back to its true form, protecting the
environment for the long-term. As part of the initiative, habitats are also protected from illegal
logging to help ensure the land is protected for generations to come.

The Body Shop has always strived to minimize packaging as much as possible, and currently uses
approximately 6,000 tonnes of paper and pulp in its packaging every year. All sources of paper
and pulp are recycled or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) derived wherever possible, ensuring
that the process is low impact and earth friendly. As part of the Wood Positive initiative, The Body
Shop is continuing to commit to only using FSC derived resources for packaging, and reducing
packaging altogether where possible.

From April onwards, you will begin to be able to identify Wood Positive products by the logo
which will appear on products at The Body Shop which use paper-based packaging throughout
the year.
Garnier and TerraCycle are looking to put an end to the fact that 1/3 of all landfill waste worldwide consists of personal care and beauty product packaging with their Personal Care and Beauty Brigade and you can help - not only will you be doing good for the environment, but you can make money for your favourite charity or school while you're at it!

The concept is simple and it's easy and free to participate. You just sign up for the program, collect your empty personal care and beauty containers in any box and when it's full you download a prepaid label and drop it off at any UPS location. Every approved package will net you $0.02 to the non-profit organization or school of your choice! I think this would be a fabulous fundraiser for a school or charity - how easy would it be to put out a call for empty shampoo bottles and lipstick tubes?! And I would much rather have kids dropping by my house asking for empty containers then trying to sell me stale popcorn! (Don't stop coming by with the Thin Mints though) You can find full information about the program, the types of packaging included in this brigade and sign up details at -  http://www.terracycle.ca

Also, during the month of April 2012, for every Garnier product sold at Walmart, Garnier will donate 25 cents to Evergreen - an organization dedicated towards engaging Canadians to create and sustain dynamic outdoor spaces in schools, communities and homes - learn more at www.evergreen.ca
