Many years ago in the infancy of the internet when my e-mail still announced itself and the only way to get online was via dial-up, I did the online dating thing. I was a pioneer my friends, not only did I date, I actually married the guy I met online - this was back before pictures were easily uploadable so we're talking total blind dating!
Thankfully for you, things have improved in the intervening years, the internet is quicker, internet dating is an established and accepted thing and there are so much more choices in online dating sites!
One of those choices is eHarmony.ca who have a trademarked matchmaking system which looks at 29 different psychological and personality traits which have been proven to predict a relationship’s chance of success.
So if you're interested in finding your perfect partner in Toronto or anywhere else in Canada for that matter, click here
eHarmony.ca was kind enough to offer me the opportunity to try it out for myself but since the husband really frowns on me dating other people so I've snagged it for a reader instead -
Yours for the winning is a 3 month membership to eHarmony.ca as well as a $250 Sephora gift certificate for that new wardrobe of dating lipsticks you'll be needing! If you want the gift certificate but are elsewhere attached you are welcome to pass the membership along to a single friend (and please do pass it along, eHarmony isn't one of those sites)!

Best date I ever had was with my now husband. I was 33 at the time and ready for a serious relationship. I told him my 5 year plan included marriage, kids, the whole shebang...and that if he wasn't into it then not to waste my time. He nodded, said "OK" and the rest is history. We've been married 7 years and have a 5 year old son!

ReplyDeleteThe most disastrous not-quite-date I've had lately thankfully was short as my friends were still at the bar waiting to rescue me, but I mistakenly wore a bow in my hair out to dinner and spent a very uncomfortable appetizer round being told that I was so 'kind' to 'wrap myself up like a present'. That didn't go anywhere :P.
I've been pretty lucky - I haven't had any really bad dates! On my most memorable date, his car broke down on the way to dinner, so we ended up stranded in the middle of nowhere. We walked until we found some nice folks who helped us tow the car. It wasn't a really glamorous date (we never made it to the restaurant!) but it felt like an adventure, and we still laugh about it to this day.

I had the worst date a few years ago. First of all he was late. He had claimed he wanted to see a particular movie with me but he hadn't even checked what was playing and when. When we had a conversation he told me that no one at his work liked him because he was smarter than all of them. We could not agree on anything (politics, clothes, music) and he was so condescending about my taste. Then, when I got home, I found he had emailed me to call me a nutcase. To top it off, he texted and called me a few times after and asked if I was mad.
ReplyDeleteI also don't have a super crazy date story. My worst date though was a first date with a guy who was such an idiot. We had absolutely nothing in common, and at one point he was bragging about how he flunked out of university. Needless to say we never went out again.

I met 'someone' as well online....he was a piece of work...had a foot fetish, a fetish for pretending he was micro-small and women were giant and i think he was interested in being a stay-at-home dad. :P Needless to say that fish went back into the sea of no cares!

On time I had a guy ask me out over the phone. I was a teenager at the time and didn't want to hurt his feelings. So I had my sister get on the phone and tell him I couldn't go out with him. He didn't even know it wasn't me on the phone!!

One of the most dismaying attempts at a date was when one of my acquaintances read the signs completely wrong and asked me out, thinking that I was into him. Needless to say, it was a bit uncomfortable breaking the news that the feelings were not mutual.

I have tried a couple of dating sites before with pretty disasterous results so not only would I like the gift card, I would really like the membership too! The one and only time I met someone in person from a dating site he turned out to be about 20 years older then the picture he posted and was married, he even said that his wife knew and approved of him dating - yikes!

One time I went over the a guy's house to spend a night & his supposedly ex-gf showed up at 6am screaming and trying to rip the covers off us in his bed. YIKES! I was told they broke up weeks ago but she's still moving her stuff out. I was holding super tight onto the sheets so she never ripped them off and didn't see my face lol. Most embarrassing night of my whole life to date! I refused to speak with this guy after.

Funniest date ever, I'm a twin and my sister asked me to go on a double date with the guy that she started to date, her date picks up my date then drive over to my house, I get out of the house and walk towards the back of the car to sit in the back street, my sister's boyfriend says"don't you want to sit with me in the front" I answered "no I'm going to sit in the back with my boyfriend" while giggling.
ReplyDeleteThen my sister walks out then her boyfriend burst out laughting..all that time he thought that he was being played a fool..funny at the time

Worst date ever...it was a blind date and I wasn't feeling anything for the guy. Then we're in his car and my ex rides by on his bike. I was still upset over him breaking up with me and I got a really bad stomach ache from the stress. It was an awful night. I swore off dating for awhile after that.

No fun!
I've been married for 20 yrs now to a great guy. But a guy I dated before meeting my hubbie to be is who I had my worst date with. He took me horseback riding which I love. Being a date, I wore a beautiful white cotton cross-over embroidered blouse with my jeans. My horse was a hot head and tried to mount the horse infront, which made me lose my balance, then he took off running across a field towards the other group of horses(including my "date"), I was half in the saddle hanging off the side and hanging on for dear life. The mud was flying from his galloping hooves. He slowed down when we got to the others and I was able to pull myself back up in the saddle, glad to have remained on him. I was covered in mud and worse, my cross-over shirt was wide open showing my girls in full view only vaguely covered by my pink lace bra and....mud. My date was grinning from ear to ear about the view he had, we never went out again. And my shirt was ruined, mud never came out entirely. The more I think about that date, the more I need that red lipstick.

The worst date I ever had was with a guy I met from a local dating site. We had talked a bit before meeting and he sent me a pic of himself. When we met..he was at least 15 years older than the pic he showed me, spent the entire time talking about his ex. I could not wait for dinner to be over!

ReplyDeleteThe best date I ever had also happened to be the greatest surprise of my life. It was just before Christmas, and I hadn't seen my boyfriend in several weeks because we were attending different universities. He told me to meet up with him in downtown Toronto, and we started out with the BEST sushi I have ever had. Japanese food is my favourite, and he made special reservations at a restaurant where the chef prepared several __ right at our table. It was so much fun, and again, the best I've ever had. After this he leads me to the Air Canada Centre, which had me quite confused. I thought for sure we were going to see a hockey game, but this seemed strange because he knew I didn't enjoy sports, and he had never expressed any interest to me about them either! So he hands me a ticket, and yells "Surprise! We're going to see the Leafs play tonight!" And I was actually kind of horrified, but tried to smile and seem enthused none the less, because he had set up this whole evening...but then he cracks up and admits that it was all a farce, and tells me to read the ticket. It was a ticket to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, something that we've been listening to together for a long time and bonded over way back when we met. This made me the happiest girl in the world. We have the time of our lives that night, and it goes down in my books as the best date, the best, surprise, and the best night of my life. We made some very special memories, to say the least.
ReplyDeleteSadly, we are no longer together, but remain really good friends. So I could use the extra tools (lipstick and eharmony!) for finding someone new!

I met my boyfriend over 2 years online. It was definitely scary to meet him face to face after only a couple of months of talking online. I was nervous, but he really seemed like a Sweetheart. I was lucky, because once we met, we clicked instantly. We had a perfect connection and got along so well. I never thought there was even a slight chance online dating would work for me, but it has. I'm so happy and grateful I met him. We have been living in a bachelor for 2 years now and we are moving into a bigger place in a month. I can't wait to continue my life with him! He is the love of my love and my best friend.
