Vidal Sassoon celebrates 50 years of the iconic bob with a faux bob and a contest!

Vidal Sassoon Pro Series is celebrating a milestone event - the 50th anniversary of Sassoon's iconic bob hairstyle, first created in 1963. Vidal Sassoon's iconic bob and five-point cut set new standards in hairdressing, igniting a movement in women worldwide to emulate the iconic look.

I have a bob myself but I know not everyone is looking to chop their hair off so in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Vidal Sassoon's iconic bob haircut, actress Jaime King from TV's hit show "Hart of Dixie" debuted a new Sassoon-inspired hairstyle. Celebrity hairstylist Ben Skervin created a faux bob on the actress, styled using the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series collection.

Ben applied Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse to damp hair to give Jaime touchable volume, texture and dimension.

Then Ben spritzed her hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect and Shine Spray to protect hair from hot styling tools.

She then flipped her head upside down and Ben rough blow dried hair until it was 90% dry. Using a multi-bristle brush, he then blow dried her hair until it was completely dry.

Then using a 1.5" barrel curling iron, he created spiral curls throughout Jaime’s hair.

Ben slightly back-combed the bottom layers of the hair for added volume.

After that, Ben was ready to create the bob. He gathered hair into a loose, low ponytail and tucked the tail part under, securing with bobby pins

Lastly, he sealed Jaime’s look in place with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray.

To further celebrate the anniversary and the genius of the bob’s design, Vidal Sassoon Pro Series has launched the “Show Your Genius” Facebook contest inviting fans to share a “selfie” of their best hairstyle for a chance to win $1,000, a vintage accessory and a year’s supply of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series products to complete the perfect head-to-toe look. To participate, simply upload a “selfie” to the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Facebook page for a chance to win. Fans will submit their best hairstyle from now until June 18, 2013, and then have the opportunity to vote on the top looks.
