Creams that worry about gravity so you don't have to - from Lierac, Lancôme, Olay Professional Pro-X, Avon Anew and Dermaglow!

Although I haven't made it to the lifting cream point yet, I have been noticing that my jaw line isn't quite as tight as it was when I was 20 so I thought it wasn't a bad idea to start doing my homework and check out what's out there...

Lierac Cohérence L.IR Extreme Age-Defense Firming Care - 50ml - $95 - helps reactivate the synthesis of collagen fibers.  Featuring a unique combination of collagen III accelerating vectors and micronized tourmaline crystals, it produces a virtual "face-resculpting" effect.  Skin looks visibly "lifted" and regains optimum firmness.  The oval of the face appears ideally redesigned. You can find Lierac products at Rexall or go here to find locations to purchase nearest you.

Lancôme Rénergie Lift Volumetry - 50ml - $110 - Formulated to help support cellular communication and provide a lifting effect: Immediately hydrated, skin feels firmer and more toned. Skin's surface contours look more defined and plumped up, and a more youthful-looking shape is revealed. Inspired by research on cell communication Lancôme highlights the essential role that cellular messengers play in maintaining the skin's support structure
Olay Professional Pro-X Intensive Firming Treatment - $59.99 - a professionally designed two-step regimen that combines a hydrating mask and a tightening serum formulated to firm skin's appearance by helping to restore skin's natural fulness, elasticity and tension.  For optimal results you are meant to apply the serum in the morning and mask in the evening for five consecutive days - after that you just use the serum morning and night.

Avon Anew Platinum Serum - 30ml - $60 - contains an extra peptide designed to help restore collagen's youthful structure, overnight, skin on the face and neck feels lifted and deep wrinkles appear reduced, after 2 weeks, the look of deep horizontal lines in the neck area are reduced.  Lifts and firms the look of sagging skin under the chin and neck.  Increases skin softness by over 40% when used with Avon Anew Platinum Night Cream - 50ml - $39 - combats serious signs of aging.  After 2 weeks, neck and jawline look more defined and sculpted, wrinkles appear dramatically reduced.  After 4 weeks, the cheek area looks lifted and reshaped.  The appearance of sagging skin is dramatically reduced.  Available through your Avon rep 1-800-265-AVON or online at www.avon.ca

Dermaglow Anti-Gravity Cream - 50ml - $61 - contains acetyl dipetide -1, argan extract and mango butter - for sagging skin and loss of firmness - an optimal facial-lift application method is supplied for you on the box to improve appearance of firmness and skin density.  Skin contour becomes more resilient and the appearance of facial contour is lifted and refined.

Any experts on skin firming creams out there want to share their wisdom?  I'm all ears!

The Body Shop Jolly Orange - will Satsuma finally be dethroned in my heart?

I have had a deep and abiding love affair with The Body Shop Satsuma scented products for years - I can't even begin to tell you how much I love the smell - super strong orange kool-aid - it's heaven! So I was really interested to hear that TBS had brought out a new orange scent for the holidays - Jolly Orange! Could it possibly be better?  Having smelled it now the answer is no!  Not to say I don't like it and if you aren't a fan of Satsuma because of the strong scent you might like Jolly Orange better - it's still orange but in a much more subtle way.  If you do like it, stock up, it's seasonal with no guarantees that it will return next year!

Jolly Orange - Bath & Shower Gel - 250ml - $13, Body Scrub - 200ml - $20, Body Butter - 50ml - $8, 200ml - $20 - all products contain orange seed oil and Community Fair Trade ingredients.

If you were lucky enough to get one of the sweet bags that were the purchase-with-purchase on Friday then you already got the whole set - plus a lot of extras!  Did anyone have any luck snagging one of those?

Beautiful Skin Revealed by Dr. Paul M. Friedman

Beautiful Skin Revealed: The Ultimate Guide To Better Skin - Dr. Paul M. Friedman - $49.50 - Shadow Media -  ISBN: 13 9780980039825 - there are so many products and so much information out there that I am often confused about what to do with my skin - who better to give me advice then a dermatologist whose job is to fix skin problems and make it look beautiful!

He offers an expert's  view on common skin conditions and treatments that really work as well as tips on how to maximize the time with your dermatologist. Dr. Friedman has grounded the book in science and explains why conditions occur.  He uses before and after photos and real patient testimonials to show readers the incredible results made possible through the latest treatment options.

There is something for everyone with chapters on: Complexion, Acne, Wrinkles, Rosacea, Birthmarks, Eyes, Leg Veins, Skin Cancer, Scars and Stretch Marks, General Dermatology, Products and Choosing a Doctor. I actually found interesting and relevant information in almost every chapter and really appreciated hearing about various treatments from the actual patients getting them!

The book is actually more like a coffee table book - hardcover and oversized - so if you know someone who is interested in skincare, this would make a really nice gift!

More TopShop is coming to Jonathan+Olivia - Kate Moss, the cosmetic line and TopMen!

Toronto fashionistas will be happy to hear that Jonathan+Olivia will be carrying the last seasonal Kate Moss for TopShop collection. The 70’s Biba inspired collection is a voyage into Kate’s unique take on vintage bohemian dressing. This last seasonal collection also celebrates the inimitable success of her previous collections.  The collaboration presents ‘Kate Iconic’, ten handpicked piece from the most popular sell-out pieces since the 2007 debut.  If you are looking to dress the boy - they will also be getting the TopMan line.

Most exciting for me is that they will be carrying the recently developed TopShop signature makeup line!

Just looking at the pictures I can tell that it's funky and different so I'm really looking forward to trying it!

The clothing and makeup lines will be hitting Jonathan+Olivia in December.  You can find the store at 49 Ossington Avenue in Toronto - 416-849-5956.

Hair spray to know and love from Phyto, Nexxus, Living Proof, Pantene, Nick Chavez and L'Oréal!

Given how many hairsprays exist out there, it is surprisingly hard to find a good one that isn't too sticky or too heavy which will actually last all day!  My favourite hairspray trick, spray a little on your brush and lightly run over your hair to tame frizzies!

After having tried dozens, here are six that have worked well for me:

Phyto Phytolaque Soie Hair Spray - 100ml - $26 - for sensitive hair - contains silk proteins which have a structure similar to the structure of hair keratin and give an in-depth action on the damaged parts of the capillary fiber to give hair the softness and shine of silk.  It's a non-aerosol spray with a very light smell.  My hair feels bouncy when I use it, not sticky or hard at all!  Phyto has a great line of haircare products that used to be more difficult to find but now that Sephora has picked them up, it's much easier to get my fix.  You can get more info on the line and where it is carried at
www.phyto-canada.ca

Nexxus Maxximum Super Hold Styling and Finishing Spray - 300ml - $12.99 -provides superior hold and a brilliant sheen without flaking, dulling or causing build-up.  Dries almost instantly to prevent stiffness and stickiness.  Works great as a finishing spray or creative styling tool.  It's a non-aerosol and smells the best out of all of them!  This one was especially good for getting a piecey look with my layers - it gave them definition without any stiffness.

Living Proof Hold Flexible Hairspray - 155g - $21 - humidity blocking, style protecting, shine popping for all hair types - contains PolyfluoroEster, a new molecule that prevents the damaging effects of humidity.  Can be layered for lighter to stronger finish yet remains soft and natural feeling.  It's an aerosol spray with kind of a weird smell - plum sauce maybe? This was my go-to hairspray this summer, it really did seem to work the best on days when it was humid and my hair looked much shiner then it normally would during hot weather!  You can find it at Sephora as well as The Shopping Channel - www.theshoppingchannel.com

Pantene Hairpray for Fine Hair - 327g - $5.99 - specifically designed to make creating and re-creating any volume look efforless.  Shaping polymers support the hair's structure so you can shape and re-shape your hair while you style.  A versatile, brushable formula that holds all day. Another plum sauce smelling aerosol spray. If you are on a budget, this one is a great choice - I didn't find it was brushable though, as soon as I ran a brush through it, my style fell flat!

Nick Chavez Volumizing Extra Hold Hairspray - 284g x 2 - $34.95 for a double pack - good for any hair type from fine to heavy to curly to textured.  Flash drying volumizing spray that provides a firm hold with a light mist. Aerosol, plum sauce, yadda yadda.  This one was really great for volume, I turned my head upside down, sprayed this on, especially at the roots and did it ever give it lift! Available at The Shopping Channel - www.theshoppingchannel.com

L'Oréal Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold for Colour Treated Hair - 365ml - $14.99 - with a UV filter to protect the shine of your colour provides a long lasting hold and satin touch.  It's an aerosol spray and obviously plum sauce is a normal aerosol hairspray smell, or there is something wrong with my nose.  What I like about this one is you are meant to brush it after applying so there is no stiff "hairspray" look, it's very soft and natural.

What about you, do you have a favourite hairspray that I need to try?

Les Tentations de Chanel Christmas Makeup Collection 2010

As usual, Chanel has lots of pretty things that belong in my Christmas stocking although I am kind of disappointed that there is no limited edition palette or lipgloss in this collection like they usually have in the holiday one...

Ombre d'Eau - $37 - Splash - frosted bronzeRouge COCO - $38 - Patchouli - light copper, Magnolia - soft, feminine pink

Love & Other Drugs - what we thought!

On Monday night myself and a bunch of Beauty Crazed readers were lucky enough to attend an advance screening of Love & Other Drugs which releases today.  I wish I had been given more passes to hand out, I know lots of you wanted to attend and I had no more tickets!  For those of you who didn't go but were thinking of seeing it, I thought you might be interested in what we thought of it.  Two people were kind enough to answer my request for their opinion so here you go:

Tara: I was looking forward to this movie as it has both Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. The movie was okay but I was a bit underwhelmed. I think I was expecting more considering the cast. I thought the movie would be more about a Viagra salesperson, but really, it was more the story of a man who falls in love with a women living with Parkinson's. There's a lot of nudity in the film, which did surprise me. Overall, I think this movie is better suited for a rental at home, considering all the nudity as well, hehe, but that's just my opinion.

Antonia: I enjoyed the film! It was definitely different than what was depicted in the trailers. Not a typical romantic comedy but I loved the chemistry between Anne Hathaway and Jake Gylenhaall. A great date movie or one to see with your girlfriends!

I took my husband and we really enjoyed it - I have to say though, romantic comedies sure have changed!  There is a LOT of nudity - if you have ever wondered what Anne Hathaway looked like without clothes on, this is your chance! The up side to that is that my husband didn't complain once that I was making him see a "girl" movie!  He was disappointed though that he wouldn't have the opportunity to use any of the great moves that Jake Gyllenhall's character had for picking up women!

And just for something different, here is Anne Hathaway with clothes on at the Love & Other Drugs New York premiere - if you are wondering what she has on her eyes to make them look so amazing, it's NARS Thebes Duo Cream Eyeshadow - both shades mixed together.

Anyone else seen this yet?  What did you think?

Fragrance is one of my favourite things to give as a gift and of course I like to give good quality fragrances - I just find that sometimes, the cost of a bottle of fragrance is more then I'm looking to spend!  Solid perfumes are a great alternative and they come in such fun packaging - who wouldn't love to receive one of these:?!
Calvin Klein Beauty Solid Perfume Compact - $50 - It looks so sleek and classy! Available in December at The Bay.
Daisy Marc Jacobs Solid Perfume Ring - $42 - Love this big chunky ring! Available at Holt Renfrew, The Bay, Sears, Sephora, Murale, Shoppers Drug Mart, Jean Coutu and London Drugs.

Contessa 22 Canadian Hairstylists of the Year Award Winners!

The Contessa 22 Awards took place last week where more than 1,200 industry professionals got together in Toronto to honour the very best in the beauty industry.  I imagine a room full of beauty people getting really drunk and then cutting each other's hair and stuff but I have a pretty vivid imagination, I'm sure it's a lot tamer then that.  What can't be disputed is the very pretty winning images - it was very hard to choose which ones to post, I wanted to use them all - enjoy!
