This week I'm obsessed with... shu uemura Skin Purifier Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil

I admit it, I used to be one of those people scared of putting oil on my face - with my combination skin it just didn't make sense to me to add oil to oil! As I became older and wiser, I learned the error of my ways and came to the realization that oil provides the easiest, gentlest and most effective way to rid my skin of makeup, impurities and all the other crap that finds its way into my skin during the course of a day. And since shu uemura are pioneers in the world of cleansing oils, I am always interested in their latest and greatest which right now is:

shu uemura Skin Purifier Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil - 150ml - $48, 450ml - $98 - targets 8 skin concerns for skin that is revitalized, more translucent, more radiant, nourished, refined, smoother, suppler and moisturized and of course thoroughly cleanses while it's at it! With a complex made up of: jojoba - for skin renewal; olive - for anti-oxidation; ginger root - for anti-wrinkle; shea butter - for brightening; camellia - for nourishing; safflower - for skin barrier; soy - for vitalizing; and corn for hydration.

And while it's not scientific, the other thing I didn't think I would like about using a cleaning oil is the lack of foam - I still have a hard time believing that if something doesn't foam, it can't actually be cleaning anything (this goes along with my theory that if household cleansers don't smell like citrus, they aren't actually getting things clean)! Here is where Ultime8 rocks - I take a few pumps and smooth it over dry skin, then I wet my face and presto, magic - it emulsifies! Then I make my happy face and wash it all off - see how easy I am to please!?

What's really nice about using a cleansing oil is its gentleness, it cleans thoroughly and removes impurities without stripping all the moisture out of your skin to protect the balance and save you from that awful tight feeling your skin gets when you use something too harsh!

Other things to love about it - the pump dispenser and the smell - it has herbal floral notes to awaken your senses including: rosemary blossom, Provence aspic, freesia, peony, powdery musk and blue cedar.

Available exclusively at Holt Renfrew.

  1. I couldn't justify spending so much money on cleansing oil - I've been faithful to my $9 Kanebo Kracie oil instead :)
