Buying Parisienne by YSL - without Prejudice -

After using L'instant by Guerlain for a couple of years, it was time for me to change fragrance. I usually go for perfumes with floral notes but I try to stay away from the obvious, most popular fragrances. Let's say this latest buying experience was very different as I had the chance to get a sales assistant who knew what she was doing. What a concept, eh? I wasn't too sure what to pick at my local Shoppers Drug Mart (on Yonge & Bloor in Toronto), I mean the choice is always overwhelming and since that evening was pretty quiet, I could take my time to pick a perfume worthy of spending $100.

I gave a few explanations of what I liked and what I was looking for and I swear: the sales assistant picked a bunch of perfumes for me that were exactly within those parameters (floral, little to no spice, not too heavy etc...). But she did something different: she made me smell the samples without telling me what it was so I would not be prejudiced about the scent. I was so scared of falling in love with something like Jessica Simpson or Mariah Carey's fragrances. Thankfully, it turned out I have expensive taste ha ha ha. My top 3 picks of the day were: Parisienne by YSL (oh the irony, since I'm from Paris), Stella by Stella McCartney (I would have never even tried her perfume, to be honest) and Mademoiselle Coco by Chanel (I usually stay away from Chanel as it's everywhere).  After sampling them on my skin, Parisienne emerged as a winner. The bottle is nothing to look at, but this fragrance is feminine without being girly, modern without being too edgy. This floral has a light woody structure and uses blackberry, damask rose and sandalwood.  Finally, at $90 for 90ml, the price is pretty reasonable.

Now, I can be like Kate Moss!
