A situation where stains are good (lip stains that is)! Sephora, Vasanti Cosmetics, Lise Watier and Benefit

One of the spring trends that I really am liking is lip stains - I just love that "sucking on a popsicle" look that they give me!  Every company seems to be releasing one but don't worry, I'm here for you, testing stuff out so here are my faves so far:

Sephora Lush Flush Wine Lip & Cheek Stain - $16 - and when they say "wine" they aren't talking about the colour, it is actually formulated with red wine extract.  You can be sure I kept it far away from Christelle!  It comes in two shades and has a gel based formula.  It's easy to apply, is buildable and really did stay on my lips all day.  And don't worry, there is no wine smell so your boss won't accuse you of drinking at your desk!

Vasanti Cosmetics Lip & Cheek Stain - $18 - In two shades:  Tidal Wave and Monsoon.  I keep loving this makeup line more and more.  The colours are very wearable, the texture is light so it applies easily and it's totally buildable.  Monsoon (the darker colour pictured here) is a beautiful cheek colour on it's own and I also liked it with a bit of illuminating powder on top to give it a bit of shimmer!

Lise Watier Hydra Shine Lip Stain - $20 - This one has a really cool magic marker applicator which makes it really easy to apply precisely.  It contains water-based dyes that hold colour in place and polymers for a glossy finish.  It has a subtle mango flavour and is paraben free.  Most importantly, it has amazing staying power!  It comes in six shades:  Fuschia, Rose Classique, Peche, Naturel, Cerise and Rose Vibrant.

Benefit Benetint Pocket Pal - $25 - My lip stain from before it was so trendy!  You can also buy the Benetint by itself in a bigger bottle but I like this one because it's portable and I like having a clear gloss packaged with it.

Two tips for optimal lip staining.  Apply the stain to dry lips and make sure your lips are smooth so exfoliating first gives you the cleanest look, there is nothing worse than seeing lip stain on top of chapped lips!  I have very dry lips so the downside for lip stains for me has been how they really do make you feel like you have nothing on your lips!  I sometimes put gloss on top although I find that gloss tends to shorten the staying power of the stain so my first choice has been a lip balm.  Chanel Hydramax + Active Nutrition Lip Care is my new favourite (review of this line coming this week)  I like that it has no shine or smell.  Just keep in mind that a stick balm with pick up the colour of your stain (just in case you are sharing the balm with your husband/boyfriend)!

I know there are lots of new stains coming out every day so if you've tried something great that's not here, please share!
