Ultra light sunscreens for your face from SkinCeuticals, La Roche Posay and Clarins!

I have never been a huge fan of wearing sunscreen on my face because so many of the formulas feel like they are too heavy, greasy and/or pore clogging -  so I am very happy to have found several that are so light, I can barely tell I'm wearing anything at all!  I will caution those not as pale as I am that they do require some rubbing in to fully absorb - if you don't totally rub them in, you end up with a most unattractive Casper the Ghost look (welcome to my life)!

SkinCeuticals Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50 - 50ml - $38 - with broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection which protect against aging and burning it is suitable for all skin types including very sensitive. Contains mineral filters which are ideal for post-procedure or sensitive, intolerant skin. The paraben-free fluid  has an ultra-sheer texture which is sheer and matte.

Available from dermatologists and spas - visit www.skinceuticals.com to find one near you.  You should also visit the new SkinCeuticals Facebook page which hosts monthly live chats with expects, has skin tips and seasonal concerns along with information on how best to use and combine products. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Lotion SPF 60 - 50ml - $26 - powerful UVA/UVB protection for sun sensitive skin. With an ultra light, non-oily formula it absorbs fast and has a clean, matte finish with no white residue that feels weightless on the skin.  It's water resistant, paraben and fragrance free, non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic.
Clarins UV Plus HP Day Screen SPF 40 - 50ml - $40 - with a 100% mineral screen formula that is totally invisible and appropriate for even the most sensitive skin with UVA/UVB protection. Also contains Cantaloupe melon extract for its high concentration of antioxidant and anti-aging benefits for the best possible protection against oxidative stress.

Also keep in mind that these thin formula types need to be shaken well before using!

  1. I have heard such great things about the Clarins, I will have to break down and try it!

  2. I had considered the Ultra-Fluid, but went with the stick instead (I wanted something "spontaneous" for surprise good weather- the weather's been so foul in Halifax I can't believe it'll ever be nice again). I do still need a more traditional sunscreen lotion for all-over use though, for long days in the sun, not just spontaneously-sunny cyclo-commutes home.
